Jesse Lee Phelps, 1876-1956

  MYSTIC -- Lee Phelps, 80, resident of Mystic for many years, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, [1956], at the St. Joseph Hospital. He was a retired miner.
  Surviving are his widow, one son, Elmer Phelps of Mystic, four daughters, Mrs. Eddie Stout, Des Moines; Nelle Salisbury, Mystic; Ruth King, Corydon; and Gertrude Atwell, Plano; and several children and grandchildren.
  Short funeral services will be held at the Swanson Funeral Home here Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The body will then be taken to the Jerome Methodist Church, where services will be conducted by Rev. Sylvan Turner. Burial will be at Jerome.

  Jesse Lee Phelps was born 11 March 1876 in Decatur, Iowa, son of Horace Sumner Phelps and Lydia C. Huffman, and died 23 May 1956 at St. Joseph Hospital, Centerville, Iowa.  He married 1 September 1897 in Lineville, Iowa,  Eliza Meda Dooley who was born 22 April 1880 in Lancaster, Schuyler County, Missouri, daughter of Jonathan Charles Dooley [1835-1906] and Samantha Walker [1843-1914], died 6 May 1975 in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  Seven children were born to this union:  Ruth Phelps, Elmer Lafayette Phelps [1899-1978], Albert Oral Phelps [1901-1906], Mary Iona Phelps [1905-1979], Nellie Elma Phelps [1908-2001], Gertie Coy Phelps [1913-2002], and Robert Erwin Phelps [1916-1917].

Richard "Dick" McNamara, 1913-1966

  Richard I. (Dick) McNamara, 53, passed away Thursday, October 20, [1966] 2:30 p.m. at his home in Davenport. Although he hadn't been well, death came suddenly of a blood clot.
  He was born October 5, 1913 in Centerville. He was married to Alliene Stout at Unionville, Mo., July 20, 1937. He had been a resident of Davenport 25 years.
  Besides his widow he is survived by seven children: Mrs. John Taylor of DeWitt, Mrs. Larry Kidelsperger of LeClaire, Mrs. Richard Felskie and Mrs. Rogert Benge, both of Davenport, Pat in the U.S. Navy stationed in California and Michelle and Mike at home; six grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Susan Baugher of Davenport.
  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 1966 at the Hill and Fredericks Mortuary in Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation after 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Mortuary.

  Although his obituary states that he would be buried in the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, there is a gravestone for him in the Jerome Cemetery.

Everett W. Stout, 1897-1947

  Mystic -- Everett Stout, 51, passed away Thursday afternoon [20 March 1947] at 1:30 p.m. at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville, Ia., where he had been a patient for the past eight years. He was a veteran of World War I.
  The deceased was a long time and well known resident of Mystic [born 16 February 1897] and his passing brings a chain of sorrow to his many relatives and friends.
  He is survived by his wife, Coy [Dooley], one daughter, Aline, his mother, Sara Stout, six brothers and four sisters.
  The brothers are Huey of Melrose, Ia.; Mike of Brazil, Ia.; Guy of Chicago, Ill.; Jobbie of West Allis, Wis.; Walter of Des Moines, Ia.; Eddie of Mystic.
  The sisters surviving are Mrs. H. E. Rasmussen, Huxley, Iowa; Mrs. George Beers, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Rex Blain, Knoxville, Ia.; Mrs. Matt Lammers, Des Moines, Ia.
  Funeral services will be held from the U. B. Church in Mystic Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and will be a military funeral with the American Legion having complete charge. Rev. William Blair, Napa, Calif., nephew of the deceased, will officiate and burial will be in the Jerome cemetery.

Ace Kenneth Dooley, 1918-1982

  Ace Kenneth Dooley, 63, a resident of 16 1/2 South Sixth Street, Ft. Dodge and a onetime resident of this area will be held Monday, March 15 at 11 a.m. at the Jerome Cemetery with the Rev. James Schweizer officiating.
  The Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home, Centerville, is in charge of arrangements.
  He was born May 15, 1918 in Jerome and was the son of Clay and Stella Phelps Dooley. For the past 30 years he resided in Ft. Dodge where he was employed by Hormel Packing Co. His parents, two infant sisters, Beulah and Maxine Dooley; a sister, Coy Stout; five brothers, Reuben, Orville, Jess, Melvin and Charles Dooley preceded him in death.
  Survivors include a daughter, Pam Lybarger, Joplin, Mo.; a son, Lonne Dooley, Ft. Dodge; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Coza McKern and Bertha Blaine, both of Centerville.
  He had been in failing health the past 10 years. His death occurred early Friday, March 12, 1982 in Trinity Regional Hospital in Ft. Dodge.

Dorothy Stout McNamar, 1923-2002

  Dorothy McNamar, 78, of Waverly, formerly of Ottumwa, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.
  She was born March 24, 1923, in Clarkdale, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Phelps) Stout.
  She married John McNamar June 26, 1937, in Centerville.  He preceded her in death in 1993.
  Survivors include four sons, Robert McNamar and his wife, Carol, of Knights Landing, Calif., Al McNamar and his wife, Caroline, of Waverly, John McNamar and his wife, Janice, and Bill McNamar and his wife, Sheila, all of Ottumwa; five brothers, Fred Stout of Des Moines, Glen Stout and his wife, Ruth, of Des Moines, Ned Stout and his wife, Margaret, of Mitchelville, Donny Stout and his wife, Susie, of Des Moines and Jeff Stout and his wife, Julia, of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
  She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Pearl and Merle Stout; and an infant sister, Kathryn.
  She attended county school near Clarkdale. She held various jobs.  She and her husband lived in Ottumwa.  She moved to Waverly after his death.  She moved to Shell Rock Health Care Center Jan. 30.
  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Nathan Frazee officiating.  Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday.  Burial will be held in the Jerome Cemetery.
  Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is in charge of services.
  Memorials may be directed to the McNamar family and a memorial fund will be established at a later date.
