Report Mr. Fry Much Improved
  JEROME - Mrs. I. E. Fry reports that her husband, who has been in the Bloomfield hospital for seven weeks, is very much improved in health and is eating better.
  Mrs. Johnny Vruble attended a pink and blue shower this past week in honor of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Carl Micetich in Centerville.
  The high school students of Jerome enjoyed two days' vacation due to the State Teachers convention in Des Moines.
  Walter Warnick drove his dad to Kirksville, Mo., to the hospital there for a medical checkup. Both returned the same day.
  Vera Scott has gone to Davenport where she has employment for the winter.
  Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wray have named their new baby son, Carl  Eugene.
  The Jerome Methodist church is having a room built on to serve as a kitchen. Carl Barbaglia of Mystic, with the assistance of some of the farmers, plans to begin building soon in time to have it finished for Thanksgiving.
  Mrs. Stella Dooley reports that her daughter, Bertha, has gone to Pensacola, 
Fla. to live for the winter. Bertha will stay with her niece, the former Patty Dooley, whose husband is stationed there with the Army.
  A new family by th name of Williams have moved into the Stanley Matelski property. They have two small children.
  Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Vruble and family and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Johnson, all drove to Rock Island, Ill., Friday to attend the wedding of Jackie Vruble to Joe Verihoores that took place Saturday. The Vruble returned home Sunday evening. They report that the bridegroom and best man were in a car action the night before the wedding and were hospitalized. The groom was released an hour before the wedding ceremony, but the best man was unable to be present due to a broken rib and bruises. The groom's 17 year old brother was made best man instead.
  A birthday dinner was held at the Carl Hamm home honoring Carl Hamm and his granddaughter, Barbara Jones.  Carl's mother, Mrs. Mae Hamm; his sister, Mrs. Artie Barrell and family of Centerville; his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Jones and family of Davenport; another daughter, Mrs. K. E. Owen and family of Jerome; and his wife, Belle, and their son, Carl Jr.; were all present to help the honorees celebrate their birthdays on Sunday.

JEROME by Susie Sidles - 9 April 1953

  Mr. and Mrs. Scott McDonald, who spent the winter in Brownsville, Texas, returned to their home here March 29. They report the weather there extremely warm for so early in the season.
  Mr. John Hickie, who spent several days in the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville and submitted to surgery, returned home Friday and is recovering.
  The Tony Rotisky family, who sold their home here last fall and spent the winter in Arizona, returned several days ago and have purchased the A. F. Hawkins property and are living in it.
  The Jerome Cemetery association met March 30. The following officers were elected: Mrs. Charles McGavran, president; Charles McGavran, vice president, and Susie R. Sidles, secretary-treasurer. There is one trustee elected each year and Joe Beer was reelected for a term of three years. The other trustees are K. E. Owen and Merle Loofburrow. The sexton will be hired by the trustees.
  Pete Sidles of Iowa State College, Ames, spent the week end at the parental Peter Sidles home.
  Mr. and Mrs. Alfred McWilliams of Aredale spent the week end with the Paul Felkners.
  Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Burkett and sons, Miss Colleen Hefner and William Henderson of Des Moines, Miss Bonadene Wilson of Centerville, Mrs. Maude Forsythe and son, Montelle, of Mystic and William Hefner were Sunday dinner guests at the W. R. Hefner home.
  Mrs. Guy Streepy of Udell spent the past week with her sister, Miss Susie Sidles, and Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Wilson of Joliet, Ill., and Allison John of Elgin, Ill., were overnight guests Wednesday. They were here attending the funeral of their brother, W. H. John, at Centerville.
  The Owen family, Hobert of Crown Point, Ind., Tommy of Louisville, Ky., Richard of Glenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Owen Ft. Wayne, Ind., spent the Easter vacation with the K. E. Owen family and other relatives here.
  Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Leaming and son, of Liberal, Kans., Mrs. John Kline and two children of Satanta, Kans., and Mary Lou Morris of Ottumwa spent Easter vacation at the parental J. G. Morris home. On Sunday after service they with other members of the Morris family were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Darl Long west of Mystic.
  The Easter service was well attended with an interesting program given at the Sunday School hour. The attendance at Sunday School was 120.
  Mrs. Peter Sidles and son, Jim, spent last Wednesday with the Howard Sidles family in Ames.
  J. W. Workman has been in St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville for several days. It is his second trip to the hospital with heart attacks. He is now improving and hopes to return home soon.
  Mr. and Mrs. Lester King of Davenport spent Sunday at their home here with her brother, Emmett Stiles, who occupies the home. They report their son, Howard, who is a patient in the Veteran's Hospital at Iowa City is only holding his own. His condition is still serious.
  Mrs. Leotia Griffin of Muscatine spent the week end with the Rev. M. R. Gonzalez and attended service here.
  Mrs. Louise Hunt and Mary Louise of Centerville attended service here Sunday and visited their aunt, Miss Susie Sidles.
  Mr. and Mrs. Junior Cary and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Felkner of Moline spent the week end at the parental Gail Felkner home.
  Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Workman and daughter, Julie, spent several days last week with the Forrest Workmans and visited his father in the hospital.
  Mr. and Mrs. Paul McElvain and three children spent Sunday with her parents, the Ralph Shorts, in Centerville.
  The Rev. Roy H. Mills family of Des Moines spent Monday with Mrs. Janice Sidles in Seymour and with George and Peter Sidles families here. Mrs. Mills was the former Mary Sidles.
  Mrs. Charles Orcutt of Russell and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pawelson of Des Moines, were Monday visitors with Miss Susie Sidles.

JEROME by Susie Sidles - 26 March 1953

  J. W. Workman was taken to the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville Monday night following a heart attack at his home. He was returned to his home Sunday and is recovering there. His sons, Forest and Burdette were called from Moline and came home at once.
  Burdette returned Wednesday to his home in Moline but Forrest will remain here and continue farming for the present time.
  The Mystic M.Y.F. brought the traveling cross to the Jerome M.Y.F. Wednesday evening and Sunday evening the Jerome youths took it to the Plano M.Y.F.
  Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Warnick and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Warnick spent Sunday with relatives in Unionville, Mo.
  Jim Sidles returned from Ames Friday where he has been a student at Iowa State College. He will remain at home to help on the farm this term and resume his studies again at the summer term.
  A large crowd attended the sale of household goods at the Inez Fry home Friday afternoon. Mrs. Fry will spend several days with her brother, J. W. and Mrs. Workman before going to Davenport to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Edward Matelski and family.
  The Matelskis left for their home in Davenport Sunday after being her several days.
  Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ervin visited at the Smith and Richardson homes in Cincinnati Sunday.
  Miss Mary Lou Morris of Ottumwa spent the week end at the parental J. G. Morris home.
  Howard King, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester King, is reported seriously ill in Davenport where he has made his home and been employed for some time.
  The W.S.C.S. will hold its all-day cooperative dinner meeting  Thursday. The program will be in charge of Mrs. James Felkner with Mrs. Marvelle McElvain conducting the worship service. Mrs. L. H. Mallett and Mrs. Essie Loofburrow will be hostesses.
  Mrs. Mazzie Anderson, a former resident here, has been sick for several weeks in the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville, but is now a patient at the University hospital in Iowa City. Her condition seems quite serious.
  Charley McGavran, who is president of the Jerome cemetery association is calling the annual meeting to be held in the Jerome school at 7:30 p.m. March 30.
  Bert Murphy, who is a student at Iowa State College in Ames, is spending the spring vacation at the parental Bert F. Murphy home.
  The pupils of Jackson Branch school where Mrs. Marion Wailes is teacher will be guests and furnish music at the churc hour next Sunday.
  All members of the Y.W. study club were present at the month meeting held with Mrs. William Clark Tuesday evening.
  The Otha Fenton family of Udell spent Sunday at the John Ponsetto home.
  Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sidles were business callers in Corydon Friday.
  George Sidles, south of town, is remodeling and modernizing his home.
  Mrs. Cecile McElvain of Centerville spent Monday at the Paul McElvain home.

JEROME by Susie Sidles - 19 March 1953

  Fifty-four men and boys attended the father and son banquet Thursday evening. The tables were decorated ranch style and the Rev. M. R. Gonzales was toastmaster. Norman Hefner gave the tribute to fathers and the reply was given by Peter Sidles. Music was furnished by Judy and Jimmy Beer.
  After the banquet the Rev. John Clifton of Des Moines showed interesting pictures.
  Mr. and Mrs. Billy Mincks of Cedar Falls spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGavran.
  Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Dooley of Davenport spent the weekend here.
  Sunday, March 8, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fry of Centerville entertained honoring Harold's father, I. E. Fry, for his birthday.  Jackie Fry of Davenport, Billy Fry of Ottumwa, and Mr. and Mrs. Fern Mango of Peoria, Ill., were all present as well as the honoree, I. E. Fry, and Mrs. I. E. Fry and Miss Shirley Coatney.
  The traveling cross is being carried by the Mystic M.Y.F. to the Jerome M.Y.F. Wednesday evening. The Mystic group will give the program and the Jerome young people furnish entertainment and refreshments.
  The Rev. and Mrs. George Pinches of Pella called in Jerome Friday and attended the funeral of C. W. Fox.
  Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fry of Centerville visited Friday with Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Fry.
  Winnifred Sedgwick, formerly of this community, now of Centerville, visited friends her Friday.
  There are several cases of flu in the community. Mrs. Richard Mincks, Mrs. J. G. Morris, Mrs. I. E. Fry and others have been sick several days.
  The P.T.A. held its monthly meeting March 10 with a family night supper. Mrs. Marshall Moore, Mrs. Gene Wray and Mrs. Paul Ervin were Hostesses.
  Mrs. Dewey Mattley, Mrs. Dalton Darrah, Mrs. Thomas Gatrel, Mrs. Delbert Foster, Miss Julia Bunetta and Miss Susie Sidles have been assigned to make the annual Red Cross drive in Lincoln township. Miss Bunetta has about finished the town of Jerome and the country territory is being done as roads and weather permit. Mr. Sellers of the Sellers Studio in Centerville is county chairman.
  Mr. and Mrs. James Fox and family of Bettendorf and Abe Fox of Davenport spent several days at the I. E. Fry home prior to the funeral of their father.
  A large gathering of friends and relatives attended the funeral of C. W. Fox Friday afternoon. He was a long-time resident and respected citizen of this community.
  His sister, Mrs. Julius Moore, and family of Chariton attended the funeral.

JEROME by Susie Sidles - 19 February 1953

  Mrs. Elgin kept school for the upper grades Saturday to make up time she lost because of the death of her father-in-law.
  Mr. and Mrs. Billy Mincks of Cedar Falls spent the week end at the Charley McGavran home. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Frank D. Jones and son, Frankie, of Des Moines attended church here and spent the day with the McGavrans.
  Mr. and Mrs. Darl Long of North Bend spent Sunday at the parental J. G. Morris home.
  Revival meetings are being held at Plano Methodist church the next 10 days. The Jerome people are invited to attend in a group Wednesday evening. The evangelists are the Rev. and Mrs. Vernon Goff, formerly of Numa. Their home is a trailer house which they will occupy while in Plano.
  Mr. and Mrs. Manford Moore of Gibson spent Sunday at the Marshall Moore home. They were former teachers here. Friends here will be interested in knowing their son, LeRoy, will be graduated from Garrett Biblical school in June and will be ordained an elder in the Methodist church at the next conference. He expects to preach in Iowa.
  Miss Fern Green of Ottumwa was a week end guest of Miss Mary Lou Morris.
  There were 18 present at the Valentine tea held by the W.S.C.S. Thursday afternoon. The program was music and games in charge of Miss Marvelle McElvain. Very nice refreshments were served by Mrs. J. W. Workman, Mrs. John Ponsetto and Mrs. I. E. Fry.
  Mrs. Lyda Bollman returned Sunday from Des Moines where she had spent several days with her son, Clay Hickie, and family.
  Mr. and Mrs. Paul Felkner call their daughter, born Feb. 1, Joan Virginia. They were visited last Sunday by the Chester Jarnigans of Des Moines.
  The next meeting of the W.S.C.S. will be Feb. 26. The hostess will be Mrs. C. E. Ervin and Mrs. Inez Fry. Mrs. Charley McGavran will have the lesson and Mrs. Mae Manda the devotions. It will be an all day meeting with cooperative dinner.
  Mr. and Mrs. Bert Murphy returned Saturday night from a three weeks visit to San Diego, Calif., where they visited their daughters. They also visited in other western points and called on friends in Chandler and Phoenix, Ariz.
  Jacob Vruble returned from the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville Saturday where he had been several days with pneumonia. Stanley Vruble returned to his home in Chicago after spending some time here because of his father's illness.

  The James Fox family of Bettendorf spent the week end at the I. E. Fry home.
  The Richard Mincks family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Charley McGavran.
  Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ervin visited Sunday with the William Dudleys near Livingston.
  Born Feb.1 to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Felkner at St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville a 9 pound girl. They have one other daughter, Barbara.
  Mrs. Goldie Worth of Centerville was speaker at the Family Night supper Monday evening.
  Mr. and Mrs. Leon Ponsetto are spending several days at the parental Mike Ponsetto home and with her relatives in Confidence.
  Several from here attended the soil conservation meeting in Centerville last Thursday.
  Mr. and Mrs. Bert Murphy, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Young of Seymour, have gone to San Diego, Calif., for a three weeks visit with relatives there. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Murphy are looking after the farm.
  The recently organized P.T.A. will meet at the school house next Monday night. The officers are Mrs. K. E. Owen, president; Mrs. John Cathcart, vice president; and Mrs. Merle Loofburrow, secretary-treasurer.
  Mrs. Charley Van Blaricome is employed at the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville and started work last week.
  The community is very proud of the success Miss Rowena Rash has had in basketball and have enjoyed her picture in The Iowan.

  Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Fry have received word of a son born to Mr. and Mrs. James Fox Jan. 15. His name is John Edward.
  William Hefner returned from Des Moines Sunday. He had spent a week with his daughter, Mrs. Mervin Burkett, and family.
  Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ervin spent last Tuesday in Centerville with the L. H. Reisnors. They watched the inauguration on TV.
  Mr. and Mrs. Otha Fenten and daughters of Udell spent Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. John Ponsettto, and husband.
  Mrs. Gail Felkner returned home from the hospital Sunday and is recovering satisfactorily. Miss Julia Bunetta is spending several days with her until she is stronger.
  Gail Felkner is again employed in the county yards caring for machinery.
  The Farm Bureau home makers are having their monthly meeting Jan. 27 at the home of Mrs. Fred Clayton.
  Janice Workman returned to school Monday after missing several days with flu.
  Miss Susie Sidles visited Mrs. Emma Ogle at the Bannell Nursing Home in Centerville Monday. Sunday she had celebrated her 87th birthday. Although unable to walk, she is in very good health and so greatly appreciated the cards and letters sent by her many friends.
  Billy Fry of Davenport is spending several days at the parental I. E. Fry home.
  Mrs. Carl Hamm is out again after being quite ill with flu.
  Miss Colleen Hefner returned to her employment Monday after missing several weeks with illness.
  Ruth Owen missed some school and was quite sick with flu but has recovered.

JEROME by Susie Sidles - 22 January 1953

  Mr. and Mrs. Roy Strawser spent last Sunday at the Henry Johnson home in Centerville.
  Charles Morris returned the last of last week from several days visit with his sisters and families, the John Clines of Satana, Kans., and with the Raymond Leamings of Liberal, Kans. He was accompanied home by Mrs. Leaming and son, Michael. They will return home Wednesday.
  Mrs. Walter Streiff and three daughters from Gnadenhutter, Ohio, is spending two weeks at the parental Peter Sidles home and at the Robert Streiff home in Centerville. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sidles and two sons and Pete and Jim Sidles of Ames spent the day with them at the Peter Sidles home.
  Sgt. Richard Ponsetto left Sunday for duty in Washington, D.C., after a furlough of 25 days with his parents here. He had spent the past year at Cold Bay, Alaska.
  Miss Leona Griffin of Muscatine spent the past week end with the Rev. M. R. Gonzales.
  There is much sickness with flu in the community.  John and Melvin Hickie are under the doctor's care, so are Forrest and J. W. Workman.
  Mrs. W. R. Hefner with Norman and Colleen were transacting business in Ottumwa Wednesday.
  Mrs. Gail Felkner is a patient in the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville following surgery Friday, and is recovering satisfactorily. Her daughter, Mrs. Junior Cary, of Moline, Ill., has spent several days with her but returned home Sunday with the Robert Felkner family of Moline, who spent the week end here.
  The Mervin Burkett family of Des Moines spent Sunday with the W. R. and William Hefners. William Hefner accompanied them home for a few days visit.
  Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Fry returned last week from Betterdorf after spending some time with the James Fox family.
  The W.S.C.S. will held its monthly cooperative dinner meeting Jan. 29. The hostess will be Mrs. Richard Mincks and Mrs. G. D. Mincks. The worship service will be in charge of Mrs. Joe Beer and Mrs. William Clark will give the lesson.
  Mr. and Mrs. William Dudley of Numa spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ervin.
  Miss Judy Beer was home from her school work in Centerville most of last week with the flu.
  The W. R. Hefner family attended the funeral of Mrs. Hefner's uncle Everett Green, in Seymour Monday afternoon.
  Mr. and Mrs. Barney Felkner returned Tuesday from a visit with relatives in California and other western places and they attended the Rose Bowl game New Year's day.
  Miss Colleen Hefner returned to Des Moines Sunday after spending two weeks at home convalescing from surgery. She will not return to her employment for a while.

JEROME by Susie Sidles - 5 March 1953

  Mr. and Mrs. Gail Felkner, Jr., and daughter of Little Rock, Ark., spent from Thursday until Sunday of last week at the Gail Felkner home. For the week end Mr. and Mrs. Junior Cary of Moline and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Felkner and son, also of Moline, were also at the parental home. Mrs. Cary stayed for a longer visit.
  Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mincks attended the ball games in Des Moines Tuesday and Thursday. Thursday they were guests of the Frank D. Jones family in Des Moines.
  Forrest Workman went to Moline, Ill., Thursday to spend a few days with his brother, Burdette Workman and family.
  The W. S. C. S. will serve a father and son banquet March 12. The program will be in charge of Mrs. M. R. Gonzales. The hostesses are Mrs. William Clark, Mrs. Delbert Foster and Mrs. Paul Ervin.
  Miss Colleen Hefner of Des Moines spent the week end at the parental W. R. Hefner home.
  Mrs. Orville Swarts, south of town, is going to Iowa City to the State University hospital in a few days for observation and treatment.
  Mrs. Earl Fry returned last week from Davenport after spending several days at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Matilski, and family. Mrs. Fry has advertised her farm for sale.
  Mr. and Mrs. E. Parks of Grinnell spent the week end at the parental Ray Parks home.
  The store formerly belonging to W. E. Hawkins and sold to H. L. Stark has been recently sold to Appanoose county. It will be used as a storage building for county machinery and materials.
  Twenty members were present at the W. S. C. S. meeting Thursday. Mr. Junior Cary of Moline, Ill., was a guest. Mrs. C. E. Ervin and Mrs. Earl Fry were hostesses and Mrs. Charley McGavran gave a very interesting lesson on the duties of several missionaries.
  Former neighbors of Mrs. Roy Glenn are glad to know she is home after spending a few days in the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville and that Mr. Glenn is recovering from flu.
  Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sidles have received word from the son, Harold, who has been employed at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., the past winter, that he is being transferred to Mexico City. He and his family are moving there this month where they expect to be the rest of the year.
  Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Fry were called to Davenport last Sunday because of a car accident by Mrs. James Fox and Jackie Fry. They were both injured but not seriously. Fry has returned home but Mrs. Fry remained for a longer stay.

  Miss Barbara Holland, R.N., of Des Moines spent the week end with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ponsetto.
  Mat Ewers of Wyconda was a guest Sunday and over night with his sister, Mrs. C. E. Ervin, and Mr. Ervin.
  S/Sgt. Richard Ponsetto of Washington, D.C., is spending a few days with his parents here.
  There was a large attendance at the 4th quarterly conference held at the Methodist church Monday night. There was a large delegation from Mystic and several from Plano.
  The school election held Monday elected Marshall Moore to succeed himself and William Clark was elected as a new member.
  Mr. and Mrs. Roy Howell, formerly of this community, spent the week end at the Joe Beer home.
  Mrs. Lyda Bollman is spending several days with Clay Hickie family in Des Moines.
  K. E. Owen went to Chicago Sunday with a truck load of cattle.
  Forrest Workman, who has been employed the past two weeks in Davenport, spent the wqeek end at home. He returned Sunday with the Edward Matelski family who had spent the week end here.
  Several from here attended the funeral of Percy Talkington in Seymour Sunday.
  The weekend of March 1 Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sidles and sons, Mark and David, and Jim and Pete Sidles, all of Ames, spent two days at the parental Peter Sidles home.
  While the news is late reaching friends here, it is interesting to know Mr. and Mrs. Richard McElvain have a son, Robert Richard, born Feb. 3. They have one other child, Mary Joe. They live in Duluth, Minn.
  The Jerome cemetery association will meet at the Jerome school at 7:30 Monday, March 30.

JEROME by Susie Sidles - 8 January 1953

  Mr. and Mrs. Billy Mincks of Waterloo spent the week end at the Charley McGavran home.
  The Chester Jarnigan family of Des Moines spent last week end at the parental James Felkner home.
  Paul Ervin has been unable to go to his work at the Meadow Gold creamery in Centerville the past several days but is improved and will be back to work soon.
  Mr. and Mrs. Andy Van Blaricom have boon been quite ill with flu.
  Larry Mallett had a tonsillectomy in the hospital in Bloomfield last Tuesday. He is recovering all right and at home.
  Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Hefner accompanied their daughter, Colleen, to Des Moines last Sunday after she had spent the Christmas holidays at home.  Monday she had surgery at the Lutheran hospital there. Hefner returned home in a few days but Mrs. Hefner will remain in Des Moines until she is improved to accompany her home. Her brother, Norman, spent New Year's day there and William and W. R. Hefner spent this week end in Des Moines.
  Miss Pattie Murphy returned to Davenport Sunday after spending the holidays at the parental Bert Murphy home.
  Pete and Jim Sidles and Bert A. Murphy have returned to Ames to resume their work at Iowa State College after spending the holidays at their homes here.
  The Rev. and Mrs. M. R. Gonzalez spent most of last week with friends in Muscatine.
  Mrs. James Hileman and Mrs. Forrest Workman will be hostesses for a birthday tea at the Methodist church Thursday, Jan. 8. Mrs. Charley McGavran will have charge of the program.
  Miss Mary Lou Morris has accepted a secretarial job in the office of John Morrell and Co. in Ottumwa. She will report for work this week.
  School opened Monday after a vacation for Christmas and New Year's.
  Mr. and Mrs. William Brown received word from Vurle Brummett, who is with the air force. He spent Christmas in Japan and sent some lovely gifts from there.
  Mrs. Ila Williams and two children of Manhattan, Kans., returned home Sunday after spending several days at the parental O. L. Fry home.
  Mrs. Paul Ervin entertained a group of children Dec. 31 honoring Max on his 11th birthday.

  Mr. and Mrs. Junior Carey of Moline, Ill., spent the week end at the parental Gail Felkner home.
  Mr. and Mrs. Barney Felkner have gone to California on a vacation trip.
  Mr. and Mrs. Donald Owen spent Christmas at the parental Bert F. Murphy home, returning to their home in Ft. Wayne, Ind., Sunday.
  Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hamm and son, Carl, returned home Sunday morning after spending Christmas with their children in Davenport.
  The Rev. and Mrs. Roy H. Mills and children of Des Moines spent a few days with her relatives here. They returned home Friday. They,l with the Peter and George Sidles families, spent Christmas with Mrs. Janice Sidles in Seymour.
  The J. G. Morris family spent Christmas with the Daryl Longs in the North Bend vicinity.
  Miss Susie Sidles accompanied the J. E. and Merrill Condra families to Centerville to spend Christmas with Mrs. Louise Hunt and Mary Louise.
  The Paul Ervin family and Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Reisnor of Centerville spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ervin.
  Ronnie Wilson is at home and improving after an appendectomy in the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville a few days ago.
  Mrs. J. H. Workman is also improving at her home.
  Miss Colleen Hefner of Des Moines spent Christmas holidays at her home here.
  The Paul McElvain family spent Christmas day with his mother, Mrs. Cecile McElvain, in Centerville.
  Mrs. Roy Glenn of Seymour attended the Christmas program given at the church Christmas eve.
  Tommie Wilson, who has been attending school in Springfield, Mo., is spending the Christmas vacation at the parental Leonard Wilson home.
  Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mincks and children and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Mincks had pre-Christmas dinner at the Charley McGavran home Sunday, Dec. 21.
  Marshall Moore has been quite ill at his home here but is improved.
  Mrs. William Brown has gone to Rogers, Ark., to attend the funeral of her brother, William Duncan, who passed away at his home there.
  Mr. and Mrs. John Ponsetto spent Christmas day at the parental Otha Fenton home in Udell. THey were accompanied home by Miss Beverly Fenton, who is spending a few days with them. They all spent Sunday at the Mark Allen home in Iconium.
  The next church family night cooperative supper will be Jan. 5 at 6:30.
  Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Karen Hickie of Chillicothe, Mo., spent the day with Mrs. Bollman and the John Hickies.
