Lonnie Edwin Dooley, 1949-2009

  Lonnie Edwin Dooley, 60, of Bode, IA, died on Sunday, September 6, 2009, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge.
  Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September, 12th at 2:00 P.M. at the Salvation Army, 126 N. 7th St., with Major Deborah Lee Agnew officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the services.
  Lonnie is survived by his daughter Laurie of Fort Dodge; son, Tommy of Cedar Rapids; sister, Pamela Elaine Lybarger of Joplin, MO, ex wife, Dakota of Fort Dodge, sister-in-law, Bonnie Dooley of, grandchildren, Perry Scott Dooley, Amber Lynn Anderson, Kate Diamond, Krystal Elaine Dooley, and Katelyn Dooley, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donnie Edward Dooley and his twin Ronnie Dooley.
  Lonnie Edwin Dooley was born on January 23, 1949 , in Waterloo , Iowa to Ace Kenneth and Dorothy Jeanette (Davis) Dooley. On May 31, 1968 , he was united in marriage to (Laurie Kay Crouse) Dakota Sky Davenport and to this union were born Laurie Lee Dooley and Tommy Allen Dooley. He served in the U.S. Navy, and was later employed as a custodian for ICCI Workshop, now known as Lifeworks. He enjoyed country music, walking, model cars, fishing, calling bingo, involved with ham radio, CB, and telling jokes and stories.
  Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Shirley Jannet Baxter Davis, 1923-1997

  CANTON -- Shirley J. Davis, 73, of Las Vegas, formerly of Canton, died at 4:58 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 1997 at her residence.
  Born Nov. 11, 1923, in Canton to William and Elizabeth Rodgers Baxter, she married Earl A. Davis on May 18, 1947, in Canton.  He survives.
  Also surviving are one stepson, Charles of Peoria; one stepdaughter, Charlene Rusterholz of Peoria; one brother, Neil Baxter of Lewistown; two sisters, Maxine Matayo of Canton and Ruth McKinney of Lewistown; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Four brothers and six sisters preceded her in death.
  Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel.
  Memorials may be made to South Side Mission or to the Salvation Army.

  PEORIA -- Earl A. Davis, 83, of 3047 Comitan Lane, Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Peoria, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Life Care Center in Las Vegas.
  Born Dec. 10, 1917, in Peoria to Charles A. and Pearl Simpson Davis, he married Dorothy Davis. He later married Shirley J. Baxter on May 18, 1947, in Canton. She died March 13, 1997 in Las Vegas.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four infant grandchildren.
  Surviving are Susan Lee of Las Vegas, with whom he made his home; one son, Charles (and Sue) of Peoria; one daughter, Charlene (and Rusty) Rusterholz of Peoria; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leslie (and Evelyn) and Robert, both of Peoria; and two sisters, Ruth (and Bill) Van Etten of Peoria and Alma Simpson of Grass Valley, Calif.
  He was a World War II Army veteran.
  He owned and operated several grocery stores in California.
  Services will be at noon Saturday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, where visitation will be two hours before services. The Rev. Gene Mace will officiate. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. 
  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Obituary: Milan Davis

  Milan Davis, 85, of rural Numa, son of Clement J. and Marie (Green) Davis, was born on Feb. 3, 1922 near Promise City. He passed away at his home on May 22, 2007.
  His education began at the Jerome School, continued at Liberty Center rural school in Wayne County, Corydon High School, Seymour High School and Iowa State College at Ames. His religious education began at churches in Jerome and continued at the Bethel Church in Wayne County.
  In his youth, he was active in both 4-H and FFA in Wayne County. He concentrated on showing sheep, racing and showing the family pony, Betty.
  He spent two years as a rural school teacher in Appanoose County.
  During World War II he entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 3, 1943. He received his training at Camp Haan, Calif., and went overseas to England in April 1944. He was a member of the 546th Anti-Aircraft Battalion and crossed the English Channel on D-Day+37 with General Patton’s Third Army. He continued serving in the European Theater of the war until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a 52-year member of the Seymour American Legion.
  He was married to the former Donna Hibbs on Aug. 14, 1947. They made their home in Seymour until they purchased their farm east of town where they have lived for 56 years with a livestock farming operation concentrating on Angus cattle. He carried on this tradition of his grandfather and father of raising Angus cattle. He was pleased that his son, Bruce, is keeping up the tradition.
  Music was an important part of his life from the time he began cornet lessons at age 11. He was very proud of the musical achievements of each of his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed the family instrumental “jam sessions” and sing-alongs.
  Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Torcie Merlin Davis; and a niece, Phyllis Davis.
  Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years, Donna; daughters Kay Singley and husband, Rob, of Moulton, Jan Berner and husband, Kim, of Albia; son Bruce and wife Deana of Numa; seven grandchildren, Andrea Singley and fiance Jeffrey DeWeese of Princeton, Mo., Rachel Singley of Oskaloosa, Beth Maddy and husband, Eric, of Des Moines, Jill Berner of Albia, Jon, Maria and April Davis of Numa; a great-grandson, Darby Morlan; a sister-in-law, Dolores Davis of Des Moines; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Dorothy DeVore of Corydon; several cousins; and other relatives and friends.
  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a loyal friend and a good neighbor.
  Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, at the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour.
  Friends may call at the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour beginning at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
  Memorials may be given to the Mercy Hospice in Centerville.
