Francis Marion Duncan, 1854-1918

  Mr. Duncan, an elderly man hose home is in Jerome, but who was working here as night watchman at the Walker mine, drank carbolic acid, with suicidal intent Saturday afternoon. When discovered by Charles Fox, he was suffering with convulsions. A doctor was quickly summoned, who, when he arrived, pronounced him beyond recovery.  He was conveyed by auto to his home in Jerome and we have not yet learned if his rash net (sic) proved fatal.

JEROME NEWS
  Frank Duncan, who has been working at the Fox mine, swallowed carbolic acid last Saturday afternoon. He was brought to his home in Jerome and a physician called. He passed away Sunday. He is survived by his widow and four children, Mrs. Edith Fry, Mrs. Hazel Ponsettoand Mae and Charles of Jerome. Funeral sevices were held Monday afternoon at the M. E. church, conducted by Reverend Lawton, pastor of the M. E. church of Seymour.

  Mr. Duncan, the night watchman at the Walker mine here, who drank carbolic acid last Saturday afternoon, succumbed to the effects and died Sunday at 10:00 a.m.  His funeral and burial was at Jerome on Monday. He was about 65 years old and a member of the U. M. W. of A. of this place.

William Francis Duncan, 1901-1952

  Rogers [Special] -- William Francis Duncan, member of the Rogers City Council, died at 1 o'clock this morning [22 December 1952] in the Rogers Memorial Hospital after an illness of about three months.  He was born in [Johns Township], Appanoose County, Iowa, [on 21 February 1901], son of Francis [Marion] and Delilah McCurn [McKern] Duncan, and came to Rogers in 1936 from Illinois. He had been general sales supervisor of Consolidated Product Company, Danville, IN, for the past 19 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. 
  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Irene [Dorothy Dugan] Duncan; a daughter, Patricia, of the home; a son, Howard Duncan of Liberal, Kan.; and four sisters: Mrs. B. O. Buck of Nuna [Numa], Iowa, and Mrs. O. L. Frye, Mrs. Joe Doinsetto [Ponsetto], and Mrs. William Brown, all of Jerome, Iowa.
  Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the Callison-Porter Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Alfred Gerdel, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery.

  Note: According to OneWorldTree on Ancestry.com, William Francis Duncan married in September 1939 in Rogers, Arkansas, Irene Dorothy Dugan who was born 24 December 1917 in Montrose, Henry County, Missouri, daughter of Thomas Henry Dugan and Etta May Hendrick, and died 22 May 1980 in Springfield, Missouri.

Major William V. Brummett, 1921-2000

  William V. Brummett, 78, of Centerville died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
  He was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Jerome, the son of William and Mary (Duncan) Brown.
  Survivors include a brother, Richard Brown and his wife, Albena, of Davenport; special friend Thelma Cathcart; and a niece and nephews.
  He was preceded in death by his parents.
  He attended Jerome School for 10 years, then graduated from Numa High School.  He also attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College and Centerville Junior College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in March 1941, completed Armament and Gunnery school, then flew as an aerial gunner off the northwest coast after the attack on Pearl Harbor.; He was accepted as an aviation cadet and completed flight school, winning his wings in 1943.  Following transition in medium bombers he went to Europe when the air was was heavy. After the invasion he was in France until Germany's surrender. Upon return from Germany he was released from active duty to the Army Air Force Reserve and retired from the service in 1962.  He was awarded many medals and citations.
  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Johnson-Lange Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Miller, C.PP.S., officiating. Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery with military rites. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
