Once Dug Park Well; Charles Fox Dies
Charles W. Fox, Sr., 82 years old, died early Wednesday morning at the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville only two days after he was admitted there.
Monday his condition was increasingly serious and he was moved from the Centerville nursing home where he had been living to the hospital. His health had been ailing for several months.
Survivors include seven daughters and three sons, Mrs. Dugie Moore and Mrs. Geno Stebben, both of Seymour, are daughters and one son, Charles Jr. lives in Centerville. He also had 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Before going to Centerville he had lived for some time at the Wayne Hotel here. He was originally from the Jerome vicinity, but was known in Seymour. And, while working as a well-digger he dug the well which still serves the Seymour park.
Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of relatives.

Charles Wesley Fox, son of Eliza Fox and Amanda Hoover, was born May 4, 1870, at Numa, Iowa, and departed this life at the St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Centerville March 11, 1953, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and seven days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Kelly on Jan. 17, 1900. To this union 11 children were born, eight girls and three boys. They are Mrs. Alice Moore of Seymour, Mrs. Goldie McKinley of Des Moines, Mrs. Irene White of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Stella Kirchner of Milwaukee, Wisc., Charles Fox, Jr., of Centerville, Mrs. Evelyn Sebben of Seymour, Mrs. Marguerite Formare of Des Moines, Mrs. Jessie Warren of Moline, Ill., James E. Fox and A. L. Fox of Bettendorf, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bondena Mae, in childhood, and by his wife, Mary, Dec. 27, 1936.
He also leave to mourn his passing one sister, Mrs. Mae Moore of Chariton, one brother, A. L. Fox of Kansas City, Mo., also 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He will long be remembered by those who knew him as a loving father and a good neighbor.
Funeral services were held at the Jerome Methodist Church, Friday, March 13, with the Rev. Franklin Knouse and the Rev. Gonzales officiating. Burial was in Jerome cemetery. Music included two numbers, "Beyond the Sunset" and "God Will Take Care of You" by Sonny Gold with Mrs. H. I. Merritt accompanying.
Pallbearers were Kenneth, LaVern and Wayne Moore, Leonard and Jack Fox and Tommy Fomaro, all grandsons. The flower bearers were Helen Rae Moore, Mary Lou Formaro, Karen Sebben, Betty Ann and Jeretta Fox, Mrs. James Schaller, Patsy Lohr and Carol Ann McKinley, all granddaughters.

Fox Relatives Came For Funeral Here
Friends and relatives here from a distance for the funeral of Charles Fox last Friday included Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Moore of Chariton, Mrs. Olga Lindsay of New Virginia, Mrs. Martha Wockline and Mrs. Anna Blomgren of Ottumwa, Mrs. Myrtle Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly and Donnie, Mrs. Julius Kauzlarich and Mrs. Junior Coates, all of Mystic, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Fox of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Ceila Johnson and Paul of Numa, Mrs. Elmer Cook and Cyrus Fox of Centerville, Mrs. James Schaller of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Mr. and Mrs. John Eddy of Numa.
Also Mrs. W. E. Phillips of Bettendort, Oren Phillips of Exline, Mrs. Bert Russell and Mrs. Wayne Beers of Numa, Mrs. Gus Astroth of Mystic, Gerald Lohr of Corydon, Glen Norris of Cherokee, Kenneth Moore of East Moline, Ill., and Jackie Lee Fox of Illinois.
