Frank A. & Golden M. (Lowe) Moore

  Frank A. Moore was born in Appanoose County, Iowa, June 30, 1903, son of James Albert and Amelia “Millie” (Hibbs) Moore, died in Carlisle, Warren County, Iowa, in September 1980 and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  He married in Walnut City, Appanoose County, Iowa, September 13, 1920, Golden M. Lowe who was born in Brazil, Appanoose County, Iowa, January 16, 1904, daughter of Willard Woodson and Margaret Elizabeth (Stearns) Lowe, died in Carlisle, Warren County, Iowa, August 2, 1981, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery next to her husband.

Elizabeth Carolyn Stearns Lowe, 1872-1961

  MYSTIC – Elizabeth Carolyn (Betty) Lowe, 89, of Brazil, Ia., passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital at 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, where she had been a patient since Wednesday evening.
  She was born in Desare, Mo., May 13, 1872, the daughter of Elisha and Denisha Jones Stearns.  She came to Brazil 82 years ago, and had lived in the present home for 69 years.
  She was married to Willard Lowe July 2, 1893, who preceded her in death in July of 1957. Besides her husband, she was preceded by four children, who died in infancy.
  Surviving are two daughters, Golden Moore of Hartford, Iowa, and Janet Palmer of Mt. Carmel, Pa.; five sons, Jesse of Brazil, Roy of Centerville, Ray of Pontiac, Mich., Carl of Waterloo and Arthur of Ft. Madison; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Joe Stearns of Centerville.
  Funeral services were held today, August 14, at 2 p.m., from the Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home.  Rev. Burton Simms, pastor of the Mystic Christian Church, officiated, with burial in the Philadelphia Cemetery.

  Willard W. Lowe died suddenly Saturday evening, July 27 at the University Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 84 years, eight months and ten days.
  Mr. Lowe had undergone surgery July 17, and was improving nicely.  He had planned to return to his home at Brazil Monday, but suffered a sudden cerebral hemorrhage Saturday evening, with death resulting.
  Mr. Lowe was well known, and liked in the community, and relatives and friends were shocked at his passing.
  He was born Nov. 17, 1872.  He and Mrs. Lowe celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary July 2.  They had started housekeeping in the same home in which they lived at the time of his death.  He was active as a miner in his earlier years, and for 30 years before his retirement, operated his own mine.
  Mr. Lowe was married to Elizabeth Stearns July 2, 1893.  She survives, along with five sons, Jesse Lowe of Brazil, Roy Lowe of Centerville, Ray Lowe, Pontiac, Mich.; Wilford Lowe of Ft. Madison; two daughters, Mrs. Golden Moore of Carlisle, Iowa, and Mrs. Janet Palmer, Mt. Carmel, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Myers, Webster, Wis.; and Mrs. Neela Law, Wheaton, Ill.; three brothers, Charles Lowe, Centerville; Ed Lowe, Cincinnati; and a twin brother, Millard Lowe of Waterloo; and nieces and nephews.  Four children preceded him in death, dying in infancy.
  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Brazil. The body will be at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Mystic.

Lowe-Glenn Engagement

  Ashley Lowe and J.R. Glenn will be married March 19 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Parents of the couple are Greg and Carolyn Lowe and John Glenn and the Late Diana Glenn.
  A 2002 SCHS graduate, Ashley graduated from Creighton University and is currently employed as a pharmacist in Marshalltown. Glenn, also a 2002 SCHS graduate, graduated from Simpson College and is a teacher and coach at BGM High School in Brooklyn.
  A reception will be held June 5.

Marcella Lowe Workman, 1921-2008

   Marcella V. Workman, 87, of Rock Island, passed away at home on Saturday, March 29, 2008.
   Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 14, at Chippiannock Cemetery in the interment chapel. Inurnment will follow at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to A.R.C. of Rock Island County or Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
  Marcella was born on Feb. 18, 1921, in Numa, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Mamie Followel Lowe. She married Forrest D. Workman on Jan. 27, 1941, in Numa. He passed away on Dec. 19, 1988.
  Marcella loved her family. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching the birds and wildlife in her backyard. She also enjoyed spoiling her buddy, Bandit, who shared her bed in her last days. She enjoyed great-granddaughter MacKenzie's entertainment each and every night after school and her great-grandson, Jesse's, hugs and kisses.
  Survivors include a daughter, Janice M. Foster, Rock Island; grandchildren, Robert L. Noppe, Peoria, James L. Noppe, Milan, and Jennifer L. Noppe, Rock Island; great-grandchildren, Jesse and MacKenzie Noppe, Rock Island; step-grandchildren, Mike, John, Dan, Kris and Elizabeth Foster; none step-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Lloyd and Luella Lowe, Fla.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bud and Dorothy Workman, Moline; many nieces and nephews; and best friends, Louise Tacey and Bernice Hovey, both of Rock Island. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Gary Foster.
  A special thanks to Drs. Stoffel, Cady and Olson; Option Care nurses Denise and Rita and physical therapy nurse John; Sheri and Cindy at Rosewood; Donna Sparrow from Guardian Care; and Heartland Hospice nurses, Sarah, Linda, Connie, Kathy, Dawn, Lordes, Velvet and Pastor Jack.
