Edgar W. Stone

  Edgar Stone was born October 5, 1910 at Achillis, Kansas, the son of Clara Burns and Samuel Stone.  He passed away October 8, 1985 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon at the age of 75 years and 4 days.

  As a very small boy the family moved to Summer, Nebraska where they lived for a year before buying at Amherst, Nebraska where he received his schooling and was living when he married Lora Carter at Grand Island, Nebraska.  They spent a few years there farming during the depression.  In 1940 he rented his uncle Charley Burns farm at Jerome, Iowa and worked at the mine. In 1958 they bought their present farm and have resided there since.

  Preceding him were his parents, a baby sister, and three brothers, Carl, Raymond, and Lee.

  Edgar leaves his wife Lora, son Harold and wife Sharon, three grandchildren; Wanita and Michael Gibbs of Promise City, Iowa; Annette of Canton, Missouri; and Peter stationed at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina and one great-granddaughter Trenna.  Also two brothers Roy of Moulton, Iowa and Ernest of Elm Creek, Nebraska, two sisters Opal Ludwig of Browning, Missouri and Margaret Epp of Kearney, Nebraska and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

  Services were held on Saturday, October 12, 1985, at 1:30 P.M. from the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour with Cortiss Fry, officiating.  Organ selections “The Old Rugged Cross” and “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” were played.  The pallbearers were: Michael Gibbs, Ronnie Ludwig, Larry Ludwig, Dean Ludwig, Jerry Ludwig and Sam Stone.

  Interment was in the Jerome Cemetery at Jerome, Iowa.

  There was a memorial to either the Wayne County Hospital or the Wayne County Cancer Society.

  Edgar Walter Stone and his wife, Lora Alice Carter, are buried in the South Half, Lot 8, Block 18 of the New Section [Row 3] of the Jerome Cemetery.

  Edgar Walter Stone was born 5 October 1910 in Achillis, Rawlins County, Kansas, son of Samuel Stone [1879-1941] and Clara Maude Burns [1882-1932], died 9 October 1985 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Wayne County, Iowa, and was buried 12 October 1984 in the Jerome Cemetery, Lincoln Township, Appanoose County, Iowa, following memorial services at the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour, Wayne County, Iowa.  He married 29 May 1936 in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska, Lora Alice Carter.

  Lora Alice Carter was born 26 October 1911 in Dannebrog, Howard County, Nebraska, daughter of Ambrose Geohegan Miles Carter [1869-1944] and Cora Alice Meader [1869-1970], died 1 August 1994 at the Lucas County Health Center, Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa, and was buried 3 August 1994 in the Jerome Cemetery, Lincoln Township, Appanoose County, Iowa, following memorial services at the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour, Wayne County, Iowa.

  Lora A. Stone passed away Monday, August 1, 1994 at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 5 days at the Lucas County Health Center, Chariton, [Lucas County], Iowa. She was born October 26, 1911 at Dannebrog, [Howard County], Nebraska, the daughter of [Ambrose Geohegan] Miles and Cora [Alice] (Meader) Carter.

  She was united in marriage to Edgar W[alter] Stone [on 29 May 1936 in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska], and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1985 [in Iowa with burial in the Jerome Cemetery, Appanoose County, Iowa]. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Dale; and seven brothers-in-law, Allen Harrison, Fred Ludwig, Richard Epp and Carl, Raymond, Ernest and Lee Stone.

  Lora is survived by her son, Harold and wife, Sharon of Powersville, Missouri; two granddaughters, Wanita and husband, Mike Gibbs of Promise City, Iowa, and Annette and husband, Mike Finlay of Loraine, Illinois; one grandson, Pete Stone of Allerton, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Trenna Toni and Tyler Gibbs and Nicholas Stone and little friend, Sherry. Also surviving is one sister, Bertha Harrison of Fresno, California; sisters-in-law, Viola Carter of Pocatello, Idaho; Opal Ludwig of Browning, Missouri; Etta Stone of Elm Creek, Nebraska; Rosella Stone of Elm Creek, Nebraska; Margaret Epp of Kearney, Nebraska; Evelyn Stone of Lake Tahoe, California; and Babe Copass of Cozad, Nebraska; one brother-in-law, Roy Stone and wife Florence of Centerville, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

  Lora was raised near Erickson, [Wheeler County], Nebraska and attended school at Erickson and Kearney, [Buffalo County], Nebraska. She and Edgar spent all of their married life engaged in farming, first in Nebraska, later in Missouri and finally settled in Iowa. She had continued to live on the farm they shared near Sewal [Wayne County, Iowa] until the time of her death.

  Lora's special joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to work in her garden and spent her winters at the quilting frames. She shared her handmade quilts with her family and has kept them all warm.

  Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 3, 1994, at 1:30 p.m. from the Randolph Funeral Home, Seymour, [Wayne County, Iowa], with Rev. Susen LeBlanc officiating. The hymn "In The Garden" was played. Pallbearers were Pete Stone, Michael Gibbs, Mike Finlay, Sam Stone, Ronald Ludwig, Wayne Ludwig and Dean Ludwig. Interment was in the Jerome Cemetery, [Appanoose County, Iowa]. A memorial was established to a Scholarship Fund at the University of Utah.

Wesley T. (Skip) Inskeep, 1918-1997

  Wesley T. (Skip) Inskeep, 79, of Seymour died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at the Seymour Care Center.

  He was born June 2, 1918, in Appanoose County, the son of William and Mable (Carter) Inskeep.

  He married Marcella McKern Oct. 18, 1938. She preceded him in death.

  Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Tweiten of Cambridge, Mass., and Jeannie Bigcanoe of Machesney Park, Ill.; a son, Steven Inskeep of Knoxville; a sister, Lydia Hoskins of Illinois; a brother, William Inskeep of Illinois; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

  He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for several farmers in the area and in 1968 became the municipal utilities superintendent in Seymour, retiring in 1980.

  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Randolph Funeral Home in Seymour with the Rev. Robert Ward officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at noon today, Monday, with a visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Interment will be in Jerome Cemetery with military honors by Nye-Birdwell Post 180 of the Seymour American Legion.

  A memorial has been established to the Seymour Care Center and contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Pearl Eugene Dooley, 1889-1966

  Pearl Eugene Dooley, lifelong resident of Jerome, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 24 [1966], in Artesia, Calif., where he was spending the winter. Born in Jerome, Iowa, Aug. 29, 1889, the son of Frank and Ollie Close Dooley, he was 76 years, six months and 25 days old at the time of his death.

  He was married to Isral Carter who survives his passing, along with two children, Billy D. Dooley and Mrs. Maxine Yeater of Artesia, Calif., five brothers and two sisters: Earnest and Dewey, both of Jerome, Earl of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Grover of Whitefish, Mont., Roscoe of Marseilles, Ill., Mrs. Marie Olson, Ottumwa, and Mamie Lawton, Peoria, Ill. 

  He was a World War I veteran and a retired employee of the D and C Coal Co.

  Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later from the Johnson Funeral Home.
