David N. Loofbourrow, 1871-1942

D. N. Loofbourrow Called By Death - Ill Short Time
Well Known Farmer of the Jerome Vicinity
Succumbs After Three Weeks Illness
  David N. Loofbourrow, well known and long time resident passed away at his farm home near Jerome yesterday (Wednesday) June 3, shortly after 1 p.m.
  He had been in his usual state of health until about three weeks ago when he became suddenly ill, and on the advice of his physician, entered St. Joseph's hospital for treatment. When he failed to respond he was taken to his home where he became steadily worse until the time of his passing.
  Those left to mourn his passing are, the wife, a daughter Zelda, who is Mrs. J. W. Workman and lives nearby, and a son, Merle, at home. Also a brother, James, of Plano vicinity and two grandsons. Many neighbors, friends, and other relatives over the county join the immediate family in their sorrow.
  Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Jerome M. E. church, of which Mr. Loofbourrow was a member. Rev. J. A. Wilson will conduct the services with interment in Jerome cemetery.

  David N. Loofbourrow was born 21 September 1871 in Harresburg, Van Buren County, Iowa, son of Wade Loofbourrow and Elizabeth Whitcomb, died 3 June 1942 at his home near Jerome in Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  
  He married, first, on 3 February 1892, in Appanoose County, Iowa, Hattie Fry who was born 10 January 1873 in Iowa, daughter of Richard H. Fry and Elizabeth Taylor, died 28 August 1915 in Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery. Child of this union: Zelda Loofbourrow was born on 29 March 1896, married James Wesley Workman, died 19 February 1986, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery. 
  He married, second, on 27 March 1917 in Wayne County, Iowa, Essie May Fry Hileman who was born 19 November 1885, daughter of Isaac Fry and Tabitha Brannon, who had married in 1903 Robert Hileman who died 16 January 1912, died 6 March 1975 at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Wayne County, Iowa, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  Child of this union: Merle Loofbourrow was born 6 August 1919, married Helen Link, died 23 June 1999, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.

  Merle Loofbourrow, 79, of Centerville died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital.
  He was born Aug. 6, 1919, in Centerville, the son of David and Essie Mae (Fry) Loofbourrow.
  He married Helen Link Sept.; 27, 1942, in Centerville. She survives.
  Also surviving are three sons, Ron Loofbourrow of Dewey, Okla., Don Loofbourrow and his wife, Jan, of West Liberty and David Loofbourrow and his wife, Theresa, of Centerville; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother, James Hileman.
  He attended Jerome High School until the 10th grade and graduated from Centerville High School. He was assistant caretaker of Jerome Cemetery and farmed. His farm became a Century Farm in 1993 and he lived there until his death.
  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson-Lange Funeral Home with the Revs. Carl Heien and David Ratchford officiating. Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today, Friday.
  A memorial has been established to the Jerome Cemetery and contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Obituary: Helen Loofbourrow

  Helen Loofbourrow, 81, of West Liberty, formerly of Centerville, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
  Helen was born Nov. 28, 1923 to Ralph and Opal (Zellar) Link in Centerville.
  Helen married Merle Loofbourrow in Centerville on Sept. 27, 1942.  Helen was a member of the Gospel Chapel and the Jerome Methodist Church.  She graduated from Centerville High School in 1942.
  Helen is survived by two sons, Don Loufbourrow and his wife, Janice, of West Liberty and David Loofbourrow of Centerville; a brother, James Link of Des Moines; a sister, Mildred Devore of Centerville; two grandchildren, Ryan Loofbourrow of West Liberty and Sara Loofbourrow of Ames.
  She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; parents, Ralph and Opal; and a son, Ronald Loofbourrow.
  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating.  Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery.
  Friends may call all day Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
  A memorial has been established to the Jerome Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th Street, Centerville, IA 52544.
