Charles Wesley Fox, 1909-1993

  Charles Fox, 84, of Centerville, died Sunday morning, March 28, 1993, at his home in Centerville.
  He was born in Jerome on January 29, 1909, the son of Charles Wesley and Mary (Kelly) Fox. He married Anna Kauzlarich at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville on Feb. 17, 1930. She survives.
  Also surviving are his three sons, Leonard and wife, Bernie, of Cedar Rapids, Tom and wife, Joan, of Cedar Rapids, Jack and wife, Josephine, of Centerville; three daughters, Judy Young, and husband, Pete, of Fort Meyers, Fla., Jane Curtis of Oklahoma City, Okla., Betty Riedel and husband, John, of Ottumwa; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jessie Warren of Garden Grove, Calif. and Marqurite Formaro of Des Moines; two brothers, James Fox of Queen City, Mo. and Abraham (Buster) Fox, of Lohrville.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles Wesley Fox, Jr.; six sisters, Alice Moore, Goldie McKinley, Stella Kircher, Irene White, Evelyn Sebben and Bonnie Max Fox.
  His mining career began at the age of 12 years, working along with his father in the Appanoose County mines. He was also employed as a maintenance and mining machine operator at all four Sunshine Coal Company mines. In 1951, he purchased the Riverside Coal Company in Mystic. He ended his mining career in 1971 at the closing of New Gladstone Coal Company, the last pony mine in Appanoose County.
  He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the United Mine Worker's of America, the ...gles and a lifetime member of the Appanoose County Historical Society.
  Funeral mass will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father V... Hoying and Father Joe Nassal officiating.
  Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery. Rosary services will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Lange Funeral Home.
  A memorial has been established to the St. Mary's Catholic Church and may be left at the funeral home.

James Elias Fox, 1919-1993

  James Elias Fox, son of Charles and Mary (Kelly) Fox, was born May 16, 1919, in Jerome, Ia., and died Monday, July 5, 1993, in a Kirksville, Mo., nursing home at the age of 74 years.
  He was married to Nellie Fry in January 1941, and to this marriage eight children were born.
  He was married to Vera Stone on April 1, 1972, in Kirksville, Mo.  She survives.
  Also surviving are five sons, Jim Fox, Bettendorf, Ia., Earnst Fox, Bettendorf, Ia., John Fox, Bettendorf, Ia., Ronald Fox, Bettendorf, Ia.,and Danny Fox, Bettendorf, Ia.; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jaretta) Dixon, of Colorado, Elizabeth Fox, of Colorado, and Mrs. Preston (Carolyn) Schmidt, Bettendorf, Ia., three step-sons, William Stone, Coal Valley, Ill., Charles Stone, Moline,Ill., and Larry Stone, Moline, Ill.; four step-daughters, Joyce Stone, Stanberry, Mo., Pamela Gordy, Fairfield, Ia., Debra Stone, Fairfield Ia., and Goldie Phillips, Kirksville, Mo., a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother Abraham "Buster" Fox, Lohrville, Ia.; and two sisters, Jessie Warren, Garden Grove, Calif., and Marguerite Fomaro, Des Moines, Ia.
  He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Fox, on March 23, 1993; and six sisters, Alice Moore, Goldie McKinley, Stella Kirchner, Irene White, Evelyn Sebben, and Bonnie Mae Fox in infancy.
  Mr. Fox started working in coal mines at the age of thirteen.  During World War II he worked as a welder in defense plants.  He moved to Queen City in 1973 where he built a machine shop which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1989.
  Services were held Thursday, July 8, 1993, in Dooley Funeral Chapel, Queen City, with the Rev. Archie Cooper officiating.  Music was provided by Julia Mullick, organist, and Georgia Ann Robinson, soloist.  Special selections were "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
  Bearers were Jock Fox, Tom Fox, Leonard Fox, Jonny Poinsetio. Wayne Moore  and Wayne Creasey.
  Burial was in Jerome cemetery, west of Centerville, Ia.

Charles Wesley Fox, 1870-1953

Once Dug Park Well; Charles Fox Dies
  Charles W. Fox, Sr., 82 years old, died early Wednesday morning at the St. Joseph's hospital in Centerville only two days after he was admitted there.
  Monday his condition was increasingly serious and he was moved from the Centerville nursing home where he had been living to the hospital. His health had been ailing for several months.
  Survivors include seven daughters and three sons, Mrs. Dugie Moore and Mrs. Geno Stebben, both of Seymour, are daughters and one son, Charles Jr. lives in Centerville. He also had 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
  Before going to Centerville he had lived for some time at the Wayne Hotel here. He was originally from the Jerome vicinity, but was known in Seymour. And, while working as a well-digger he dug the well which still serves the Seymour park.
  Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of relatives.

  Charles Wesley Fox, son of Eliza Fox and Amanda Hoover, was born May 4, 1870, at Numa, Iowa, and departed this life at the St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Centerville March 11, 1953, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and seven days.
  He was united in marriage to Mary Kelly on Jan. 17, 1900. To this union 11 children were born, eight girls and three boys. They are Mrs. Alice Moore of Seymour, Mrs. Goldie McKinley of Des Moines, Mrs. Irene White of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Stella Kirchner of Milwaukee, Wisc., Charles Fox, Jr., of Centerville, Mrs. Evelyn Sebben of Seymour, Mrs. Marguerite Formare of Des Moines, Mrs. Jessie Warren of Moline, Ill., James E. Fox and A. L. Fox of Bettendorf, Iowa. 
  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bondena Mae, in childhood, and by his wife, Mary, Dec. 27, 1936.
  He also leave to mourn his passing one sister, Mrs. Mae Moore of Chariton, one brother, A. L. Fox of Kansas City, Mo., also 31 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
  He will long be remembered by those who knew him as a loving father and a good neighbor.
  Funeral services were held at the Jerome Methodist Church, Friday, March 13, with the Rev. Franklin Knouse and the Rev. Gonzales officiating. Burial was in Jerome cemetery. Music included two numbers, "Beyond the Sunset" and "God Will Take Care of You" by Sonny Gold with Mrs. H. I. Merritt accompanying. 
  Pallbearers were Kenneth, LaVern and Wayne Moore, Leonard and Jack Fox and Tommy Fomaro, all grandsons. The flower bearers were Helen Rae Moore, Mary Lou Formaro, Karen Sebben, Betty Ann and Jeretta Fox, Mrs. James Schaller, Patsy Lohr and Carol Ann McKinley, all granddaughters.

  Friends and relatives here from a distance for the funeral of Charles Fox last Friday included Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Moore of Chariton, Mrs. Olga Lindsay of New Virginia, Mrs. Martha Wockline and Mrs. Anna Blomgren of Ottumwa, Mrs. Myrtle Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly and Donnie, Mrs. Julius Kauzlarich and Mrs. Junior Coates, all of Mystic, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Fox of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Ceila Johnson and Paul of Numa, Mrs. Elmer Cook and Cyrus Fox of Centerville, Mrs. James Schaller of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Mr. and Mrs. John Eddy of Numa.
  Also Mrs. W. E. Phillips of Bettendort, Oren Phillips of Exline, Mrs. Bert Russell and Mrs. Wayne Beers of Numa, Mrs. Gus Astroth of Mystic, Gerald Lohr of Corydon, Glen Norris of Cherokee, Kenneth Moore of East Moline, Ill., and Jackie Lee Fox of Illinois.

Obituary: James Kelly, 69, 1860-1930

JAMES KELLY, 69, OF MYSTIC DIES; SHOT SELF IN ABDOMEN
  Independence, IA -- Funeral services for James Kelly, 69, Mystic, Ia., who died Wednesday night at People's hospital as the result of gunshot wounds in the abdomen, self inflected, Thursday awaited arrival of relatives. The body is at the Swan & Leyze undertaking parlors.
  Mr. Kelly was visiting at the home of a daughter, Mrs. George Schaefer, living one mile north of Jesup, at 5:45 pm Wednesday.
  Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kelly, 415 Parker street, Waterloo, are relatives.  Four sons and three daughters survive. No cause is known for the self-destruction.

  James Kelly was born 20 December 1860 in Knockmarloch, Riccarton, Ayr, Scotland, son of James Kelly and Agnes Reid, immigrated to the USA in 1884, was naturalized in 1896, died 21 May 1930 in Jessup, Buchanan County, Iowa, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery, Appanoose County, Iowa. James married (1) 25 July 1881 in Riccarton, Scotland, Mary Reid who was born 27 February 1861, daughter of William Reid and Mary Overend, died 24 September 1902 in Mystic, Appanoose County, Iowa  and buried in the Jerome Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa.  James married (2) c1906 Jane Scott who was born c1860 in Scotland, daughter of William Scott and Margaret Semple and immigrated to the USA in 1882. 
  Ten children were born during his first marriage to Mary Reid:  (1) Mary Kelly who was born 20 November 1881 in Scotland, married Charles Wesley Fox (son of Elias Z. Fox and Amanda Hoover), died 27 December 1935, and buried in the Jerome Cemetery; (2) Robert Kelly was born 23 October 1882 in Scotland, married 1 March 1903 Myrtle Lula Morrison (daughter of Lewis Kossuth Morrison and Celestia Elizabeth Crowder), died 16 September 1919 in Mystic, Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in Elgin Cemetery, Mystic, Iowa; (3) William Reed Kelly was born 22 Jun 1884 in Scotland, married Kate Lewis (daughter of Daniel Lewis and Mary Ann Griffith), and died 7 May 1962; (4) Martha Kelly was born 5 March 1886 in Missouri, married 4 November 1904 in Mystic, Iowa, Samuel Oscar Wickline (son of Alonzo Wickline and Mary Whan), died 1 January 1956 in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa; (5) Margaret Kelly was born November 1887, died 22 June 1902, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery; (6) John Kelly was born 25 September 1889 in Brazil, Appanoose County, Iowa, married 30 January 1910 Jennie E. Johnson (daughter of Henry Clark Johnson and Virginia Matilda Strunk), died 5 January 1974 in Mystic, Appanoose County, Iowa; (7) James J. Kelly was born 12 August 1891, married Mary Magdalene Lewis (daughter of Daniel Lewis and Mary Ann Griffith), died 21 July 1929 in Mystic, Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in Highland Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa; (8) Thomas Kelly was born Aug 1896 in Iowa, married Minnie Schafer (daughter of John and Mary Schafer of Winthrop, Iowa), lived in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1930, died 21 July 1956 in Yakima, Washington, and was buried in Winthrop, Iowa; (9) Anna Kelly was born 17 September 1898 in Iowa, married Iver Leonard Blomgren (son of August Blomgren and Hattie Peterson), and died 16 December 1965; and (10) Andrew R. Kelly was born 13 July 1900, married 21 May 1932 Theresa M. Hoerner (daughter of Julius Hoerner), died 13 October 1962, and was buried in Highland Cemetery, Mystic, Appanoose County, Iowa.

Obituary: Wesley R. Kelly

  Wesley R. Kelly was born in Buffalo, Mo., July 29, 1902, the son of Samuel and Grace Dooley Kelly, and died at his home in Albia Aug. 6, 1957, at the age of 55 years and eight days.
  His early life was spent in Missouri and he lived for several years in Newton before coming to Albia in 1949.
  His marriage to Talitha Harger took place Sept. 21, 1947, in Unionville, Mo.
  They operated the taxi business here from 1949 until 1953, and then established a furniture repair shop which they were operating at the time of Mr. Kelly's death.
  Survivors are his wife; a step-son, Orval Harger of Des Moines; three step-daughters, Mrs. Edith Woolridge of Des Moines and Mrs. Rubie Kline and Mrs. Edna See, both of Albia; a foster son, John Bogle; and three sisters, Mrs. Violet Stover of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Elsie Abernathy of St. Paul, Minn., and Minnie Bogle of Versailles, Mo.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie; and a step-daughter, Letha Carter.
  Funeral services, with Elder Robert Zimmerman of Lovilia officiating, were Aug. 9 at the Reorganizated Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Albia.  Burial was in Jerome, Ia., cemetery.

Myrtle Morrison-Robert Kelley Marriage

  Miss Myrtle Morrison living near Centerville and Robert Kelley of Jerome were married Sunday at the home of the bride's parents, Rev. E. J. Shook, of Cincinnati performing the ceremony.  An excellent dinner was served and the day was a very pleasant one to all and the bride and groom were offered all manner of good wishes.
