Columbus B. Swan, 1870-1945

  C. B. Swan, of Allerton, died at the home of his son Arthur, at New Sharon, according to word received at the Iowegian office today. Funeral and burial will be at the Jerome M. E. church Wednesday at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Smith of the New Sharon Methodist church officiating.
  Mr. Swan died at the age to 75 years, at 11:30 Sunday night following a long period of failing health.  Death followed heart failure. He is survived by his widow, Viola, and by the following children, E. L. Swan of Montana, Arthur, of New Sharon, and Howard of New Sharon.
  The deceased was widely known and loved and many friends mourn his passing.

Editor's Note
  Columbus B. Swan was born 17 February 1870, son of William Swan and Ellen Gray. He married Viola B. Cole who was born May 1870, daughter of Jack Cole and Mahala Plunner.  After their marriage, they lived (1900) in Independence Township, (1910) Lincoln Township, (1920) Pleasant Township, (1925) Pleasant Township in Appanoose County, Iowa, and (1930) Walnut Township, Wayne County, Iowa.  The had three children: 
  (1) Elmer Layton Swan was born 12 November 1893 at Plano, Johns Township, Appanoose County, Iowa and married Bessie Edmons, daughter of Edward Edmons and Mabel Schack, who was born c1891 in Missouri and died 4 September 1935 in Montana. Children: Cecil L. Swan, Thelma R. Swan and Viola M. Swan.
  (2) Arthur Hugh Swan was born 29 December 1897, married Phrana Bloulson, and died March 1975 in New Sharon, Mahaska County, Iowa. He married Phrana Bloulson who was born 3 September 1898, daughter of Witry Bloulson and Ledia J. Long, and died October 1979 in New Sharon, Mahaska County, Iowa.
  (3) Howard Swan was born c1904 and married Cleo Stephenson who was born c1904, daughter of Yury Stephenson and Daisy Grant.  Children: Harold R. Swan.
