DAVID F. NEWELL DEAD
Farmer Living West of Jerome Passed Away This Morning
  David F. Newell, prominent farmer living two miles west of Jerome, passed away at his home this morning about 8:30 o'clock. Death came after a short illness which had developed into serious complications within the past few days. He has been a resident of this county for many years and leaves his wife to mourn his death as well as the other members of his family. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.

Mrs. Newell Is Taken By Death
Aged Former Resident of Jerome
Succumbs Following a Long Period of Failing Health
  Mrs. Elizabeth Newell, 86, died Thursday at 1:00 o'clock at the Moulton nursing home following a long period of failing health. Mrs. Newell had been a long time resident of Jerome vicinity. She was well known and liked there and elsewhere and a large circle of friends and relatives mourn her passing.
  She is preceded in death by her husband, David F. Newell, and one son, Roy. The only near relatives surviving are two grandchildren, David Newell and Virgie Newell, both of whom live in the Jerome vicinity.
  Funeral services are to be held at the Methodist church in Jerome Saturday at 2:00 o'clock. Burial will be in the Jerome cemetery.

Editor's Notes
  David F. Newell was born 29 December 1848 in Indiana, died 27 February 1920 in Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  Elizabeth Newell was born 12 April 1858 in Ohio, died 12 October 1944 in Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  
  In the 1920 U.S. Census, Elizabeth Newell's father was listed as born in Indiana and her mother in Ohio. In the 1925 Iowa Census, Elizabeth Newell gave her parents as Samuel Newell, born in Ohio, and Mary M. Lawrence, born in Pennsylvania.  In the 1930 U.S. Census she said both of her parents were born in Pennsylvania.
  In the 1925 Iowa Census, Roy E. Newell gave his father as David F. Newell, born in Indiana, and his mother as Elizabeth Kennel, born in Ohio.
  Their son, Roy E. Newell, was born March 1878 in Monroe County, Iowa, died 1941, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  Roy married Mary Wales who was born 1886, daughter of George Wales and Francis Moore, died in 1940, and was buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  A child of this couple who was born 2 April 1907 and died 17 May 1907 is buried in the Jerome Cemetery.  Two other children were: Virgie Newell born c1909 and David who was born 28 December 1914, died in May 1985 while living in Seymour, Wayne County, Iowa.

  1. I have an old Bible that belongs to this family. It lists some marriages and births and deaths. I would like to return it to someone in the family.
