  Mrs. Regina Isabella Davison, 84, a resident of rural route Coatsville, Mo. in Appanoose County (sic) for nearly three years and a long-time Centerville resident, died at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Centerville late Saturday afternoon, July 12.

  She had been in failing health several months, a hospital patient one day.

  Born Aug. 7, 1895 in Appanoose County, she was the daughter of Samuel [Marion William]* and Mary [Cornelia Isabel] Swank Crow.

  On Nov. 26, 1913 she married Roy Crow (sic) [Davison] at the Udell United Church of the Brethren. He preceded her in death Dec. 1979.

  Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lloyd Davison; nine brothers, Leo [Fay], [Samuel] Floren, Carl [Okel], Gilbert [Clay], [Charles Herbert] Charley, [William] Glen, [James] Dellie, Ralph [Pleasant] and Fred [Lester] Crow; and two sisters, Alta [A.] Whisler and [Martha Alpha Elfa] Elsa Walker.

  Survivors include two sons, Richard and Gerald of Centerville; one daughter, Bethel Ballanger of rural route Coatsville, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

  The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at the Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home with the Rev. Clark McKern officiating. Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery. Visitation was Monday evening.

  A memorial has been established payable to the Easter Seals Foundation. Memorials may be given at the funeral home.

  Roy Lovejoy Davison, 88, a retired farmer and Appanoose County employee, who had resided at 423 East Van Buren Street in Centerville, died at the home of his daughter [Bethel Ballanger] near Coatsville [Schuyler County], Mo., Wednesday, December 5, 1979.  He had been in ill health and living at her home the past two years.

  Born May 8, 1891, near Moulton, he was the son   of Charles and Mary Ledbetter Davison.  On November 26, 1913, he married Regina Crow in Appanoose County, and she survives.

  When a young man he joined the Brethren Church in Udell.  The Davisons farmed south of the Mt. Ararat Church east of Centerville many years, and for five years of their 22 years in Centerville, he was caretaker of the Appanoose County courthouse lawn.

  His parents, a son Lloyd Davison, a grandson and two sisters, Blanche Crow and Flossie Sanders, preceded him in death.

   Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Richard and Gerald Davison, both of Centerville, one daughter, Mrs. John (Bethel) Ballanger, Coatsville, Mo., 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

  Services will be Friday, 1:30 p.m. at Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home in Centerville, with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Oelke officiating.  Burial will be in Jerome cemetery. A memorial to the Easter Seals has been established, and memorials may be given to the funeral home.

Richard Faye Davison, 1924-1992

  Richard Faye Davison, 67, a resident of 823 South 16^th Street in Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, January 9, 1992 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Centerville.

  He was born on April 2, 1924 at Moulton, Iowa, the son of Roy and Regina (Crow) Davison. He was united in marriage to Camille Joanne Burley on July 14, 1945 at Centerville. She survives.

  He was born and raised on a farm near Moulton and farmed for several years. He worked at Firestone Tire Co. and also at Goodyear Tire Co. in Centerville with his good friend and owner, Bud McCarthy, for many years as a tire serviceman. His hobbies were leathercraft and long walks with his dog, Bo.

  He was a member and deacon of the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville and was an active member of the Appanoose Co. Animal Lifeline Inc. (Humane Society).

  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lloyd.

  Survivors include his wife, Camille of Centerville; one son, Ed Davison of Osceola; two daughters, Mrs. Ron (Victoria) Ryals of Unionville, Mo. And Mrs. Ron (Janice) Curtis of Orlando, Florida; 8 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; one brother, Gerald Davison of Centerville and one sister, Bethel Ballanger of Coatsville, Mo

  There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated.

  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 1992 at 2 p.m. at the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville with Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Duley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

  A memorial has been established in his memory to the Appanoose County Animal Lifeline Inc. (Humane Society) and may be left at the Duley Funeral Home in Centerville.

  Leonora Ruth Anders, 58, well-known Centerville resident who made her home at 1112 West Maple Street, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 11, 1978, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, shortly after being admitted.

  Born July 23, 1920, she was the daughter of Frank and Alpharetta Mae Fisher Thomas. On October 22, 1938, she was married to Harold F. Anders, in Unionville, Mo., and he preceded her in death August 16, 1976.

  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Centerville, and had been employed as a nurses (sic) aide at the local hospital since 1964.

  Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Lorelei, and one brother, Floyd Thomas.

  Surviving are four sons, Phillip, Lawrenceville, Ga.; Ronald, Chapel Hill, N.C.; Dennis, McComb, Miss.; and Thomas, Centerville; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Deborah) Hiatt, Centerville; and Mrs. Gary (Mary) Wood, Oskaloosa; ten grandchildren, three brothers, Ed Thomas of Centerville and Lloyd Thomas and Larry Thomas, both of Davenport, eight sisters, Charlotte Curtis, Gustava Marshall, Mildred Karth, Virginia Cornett, Maurine Thomas, Lila Thomas, all of Centerville; June White, Corpus Christi, Tex., and Marie Archer, Rockford, Ill.

  Services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Centerville, with Dr. Douglas Oelke officiating. Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.  Memorials have been established to her church and to St. Joseph Hospital, and donations may be left at the funeral home.

  Harold Franklin Anders, 58, a self-employed painter and decorator and lifelong resident of Centerville, who resided at 1112 West Maple, died in St. Joseph Hospital Monday, August 16, 1976.  He had been in ill health the past four years.

  Born August 8, 1918, in Centerville, he was the son of Harry and Pearl Phillips Anders. On October 22, 1938, he was married to Leonora Thomas in Unionville, Mo., and she survives.

 His father and a daughter, Loraine Anders, preceded him in death.

 Survivors besides his widow include his mother, Mrs. Pearl Anders, Centerville; four sons, Phillip Anders, Atlanta, Ga.; Ronald Anders, Park Ridge, Ill.; Dennis Anders, Philadelphia, Pa.; and Thomas Anders, Centerville; two daughters, Deborah Hiatt and Mary Wood, both of Centerville; ten grandchildren, one sister, Virginia Burton, Davenport; and two brothers, Harry Anders, Jr., Davenport; and Gerald Anders, Waldwick, N.J.

  Services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas Oelke officiating. Burial will be in Jerome Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.  A memorial has been established.

Joel Lesley (Joe) Cousins, 1889-1975

   Joel Lesley (Joe) Cousins, 19 West Cottage, Centerville, died Tuesday, April 15, 1975, at the age of 86.

  Born October 27, 1889, in Ravannah, [Mercer county,] Missouri, he was the son of Charles and Nancy [Scott] Cousins. He was married to Estella Ellen Rash in Trenton, Missouri, December 2, 1908. She died September 4, 1969.

  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.

  Surviving are two children, Mrs. Ocie Sedgwick, Centerville, and Leslie Cousins, Ottumwa; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

  Mr. Cousins has been employed by the Milwaukee railroad for 47 years, and was section foreman at Jerome when he retired. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.

  Services will be Friday, 1:30 p.m., at Johnson Home, with the Rev. Olen Adams officiating.  Burial will be in Jerome Cemetery.

Mary Frances Allan

  Mary Frances Gump, daughter of [James] Elwood and Lucinda Gump, was born near Seymour, Iowa, Nov. 9, 1883, and at the time of her death was 48 years, 10 months and 12 days of age.

  She was married to George Allan on Dec. 27, 1903, and to this union were born six children.

  Those surviving are, Mrs. Edw. Brouch of Mankato, Minn., Mrs. Roy Randolph of Centerville, Edmond of Jerome and Ralph at home.  Two infants preceded her in death.

  Besides the bereaved husband and children the departed is survived by four brothers, Clark, Winfield, Fred and Millard Gump of Washington, Mrs. W. P. Mason and Mrs. Elsworth Gump of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Beaddy [Beedie or Bedia Ices Gump] Puckett of Potlatch, Idaho, Mrs. [Sarah] Eddie Hendley of Mankato, Minn.

  Mrs. Allan united with the Believers church more than 25 years ago and in her last suffering manifested her faith in an all-wise Savior and received much comfort therefrom.

  Mrs. Allan was well known in this community as a loving, sacrificing and faithful mother and as a good and genial neighbor.

  She will be sadly missed in her home and in the community which knew her presence.

George Allan, 1882-1957

George Allan

  George Allan, son of Robert and Anna [McClure] Allan, was born in Irving [Irvine, North Ayrshire], Scotland, Dec. 6, 1881 [1882]. At the age of two years he came with his parents and sister Margaret to the United States.

  He was one of a large family, surviving him are three brothers and one sister. They are Thomas of Jerome, Mrs. William Hardy also of Jerome, Alfred of Guthrie Center, and William of Ottumwa.

  He was married to Mary [Frances] Gump in 1904 [December 27, 1903], she passed away in 1932. Six children were born of this union, two dying in infancy. Mourning his departure are Edmond of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, Mrs. Ethel Villa of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, Ralph of Mankato, Minnesota and Mrs. Dorothy Randolph of Centerville. There are three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

  In 1942 he was married to Lois Brown of Ottumwa, and they resided in Eddyville until her death in 1951. He then went to Lake Crystal, Minn., to make his home with his daughter.

  He came to Christ twenty-five years ago and was received into the assembly at Jerome and has been in full fellowship ever since. He daily read the Bible and continued to admonish his children to seek the Savior he knew so well.

  “The Lord giveth; and the Lord taketh away.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Elmer H. Stoner, 1893-1962

Elmer H. Stoner

  Elmer H., youngest son of Samuel and LaAnna Stoner, was born near Jerome, April 14, 1893, and passed away at the Wayne county hospital in Corydon Aug. 21, 1962, at the age of 69 years, four months and seven days.

  He was united in marriage to Nettie Crouch May 5, 1921, who survives him. To this union were born three daughters, Blanche Ellis, Marie Stanton and Coleen.

  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Coleen; his father and mother, one brother, Robert L., and one sister, Marcia Crouch.

  He leaves his wife, Nettie, two daughters, Mrs. Marie Stanton of Seymour and Mrs. Blanche Ellis of Allerton; two sons-in-law, James Stanton of Seymour and Virgil Ellis of Allerton; three grandchildren, Lary James and Jo Marlene Stanton and Connie Sue Ellis; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Crouch of Seymour, nieces and nephews, several cousins and a host of friends.

  During the winter of 1925 he confessed the Lord, Jesus Christ, as his personal Savior, accepting God’s way of salvation as set forth in the gospel of St. John, Chapter 5, verse 24:  “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life and shall not come unto condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Also in the Epistle to the Ephesians, Chapter 2, verse 8 and 9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.”

  He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was a victim of f lingering illness and he met each day of suffering with courage, strengthened by the care of his loving wife, who stayed with him constantly.

 Rev. David Lawrence of Centerville officiated at the funeral at the Liggett Funeral home Thursday, Aug. 23.  Burial was in Jerome cemetery. Rev. and Mrs. Lawrence sang the hymns.

  Paul bearers were Kenneth Owen, Carl Hamm, Home Andrews, Bert Voyce, Harold McElvain and Elmer Elliott.  Friends who assisted with the flowers wee Mrs. Clement Davis, Mrs. Russell Phillips, Mrs. Homer Andrews and Mrs. Charles Burkhiser Jr.

La Anna Bollman Stoner, 1864-1937

  Laanna Bollman, daughter of William and Elizabeth Bollman, was born in Appanoose County, Iowa, June 10th, 1864. She grew to womanhood in the Jerome vicinity, the place of her birth, receiving her education in the public schools. On September the 25th, 1887, she was united in marriage to Samuel Stoner and they began to make their home in this part of the county. Two sons and two daughters were born to bless this union: R. L. at home, Mrs. Marcia Crouch, Ethel and Elmer, all of the Jerome vicinity.  Mrs. Stoner departed this life at her home Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock January 5th, 1937, age 72 years, 6 months and 25 days. In early life she was converted, uniting with the Jerome Methodist church; to which church and faith she remained until death., She was a tender and loving mother and had a host of friends, some of them driving for several miles to attend the funeral service which was held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the church of which she so long had been a member. The service was in charge of the Rev. Luther W. Childs of Centerville. Besides the four children, Mrs. Stoner is survived by one brother, C. C. Bollman and one sister, Mrs. Mary Wilson, both of Jerome, also two granddaughters, Blanche and Vera Colene Stoner.   In death she was preceded by her husband, who passed away five and one-half years ago, an infant granddaughter, Vera Colene Stoner, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lottie Stoner, who passed away five years ago. The body was laid to rest in the Jerome cemetery in the family lot.
