Willard Laverne Moore, 1926-1991

  Willard Laverne Moore, the son of Dugie and Alice (Fox) Moore, was born September 7, 1926, in Appanoose County, Iowa, and passed away August 21, 1991, at his home due to a massive heart attack at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 14 days.
  Willard attended school in Jerome, Iowa.  He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving overseas in 1945-46.  He was employed for more than 30 years by Wayne County in the secondary roads department.  He retired in 1987.  Willard was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion in Corydon.  He was a quiet man who enjoyed his children, granddaughter, music and working.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth.
  Willard was united in marriage to Arlette Greenlee on Nov. 8, 1964, and to this union a son and two daughters were born, Edward and Juanita and Danita.  Edward married Linda Davis in April of 1991; Juanita married Kevin Nickell in August 1987 and have a daughter, Emily; and Danita has a significant other, Jim Heath.  Willard is also survived by one brother, Wayne Moore and wife, Elizabeth of Seymour; sisters: Marianna and husband William Dodson of Tucson, Arizona, and Helen Rae and husband Charlie Slawson of Allerton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Dorothy Moore of East Moline, Illinois, and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
  Arlette Moore is a sister of Collette Rickert of Corydon; William Greenlee of Davenport, Iowa, Roy and Ray Greenlee of Corydon.
  Funeral services were held Saturday, August 24, 1991, at 2:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church, Corydon, Iowa, with Pastor Dean Meyer officiating.  The hymns “How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden” were sung by Milton Albertson and Sonny Gold, accompanied by Mary Halls, pianist, and Shirley Bott, organist.  Pallbears were Rick Moore, Robin Moore, Robert Greenlee, Dennis Rickert, Stanley Moore and John Weeks. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Moore, Jeff Stewart, Mickey Martin, Ronnie Van Dyne, Gary Bennett and Lawrence Polsdofer.  Interment was in the Corydon Cemetery.  There was a memorial fund to the family.
  Randolph Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

  The family of Willard Moore would like to thank everyone who stopped to visit, offered an encouraging shoulder, and gave all of us strength.  Although we will desperately miss him, he will live forever in our hearts and minds.  May we all have his patience and positive mental attitude.  Thank you all once again.

  Ervin Douglas (better known as Dugie) Moore, son of Joel Moore and Mary VanDorn Moore, was born in Jerome, Iowa, June 29, 1897, and passed away at the St. Joseph’s hospital in Centerville June 29, 1960, at the age of 63 years.
  He was united in marriage to Alice Fox on Aug. 2, 1918, and to this union six children were born.  Ervin Wendell, who preceded him in death Sept. 24, 1920, William Kenneth of East Moline, Ill., Wayne Robert and Willard LaVern of Seymour, Mrs. Helen Mae Jones of Millerton and Marianna Kae, at home.
  Three sisters also survive, Mrs. Gertie Hudson of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. Etta Phillips of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Mrs. Ocie Huston of St. Joseph.
  There are five grandchildren, Stanley and Gary Lee Moore of East Moline, Ill., Rickey and Robin Moore of Seymour and Tammie Jones of Millerton; one great-grandchild, Bobbi Lea Moore of Moline, Ill., two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Moore of East Moline, Ill., and Mrs. Elizabeth Moore of Seymour, and one son-in-law, Larry Jones of Millerton.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, a brother and two grandchildren, Bobby Lee Moore and Terry Lee Moore.  He also leaves to mourn his passing a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
  His entire life was spent in Appanoose and Wayne counties.  For the past few years he has been on employee of Wayne county.  He was a kind and loving father, husband and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all.
  A precious one from us is gone,
    A voice we loved is still,
  A place is vacant in our home
    Which never can be filled.
  Funeral services were conducted from the Liggett Funeral home in Seymour Friday, July 1, at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Clive Cook of Seymour EUB church officiating.  Richard Walker sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Goodnight Here, Good Morning There,” accompanied by Mrs. John Wickam at the piano.  Pallbears were Wayne county employees, Jesse Roberts, Miles VanFleet, Earl Henderson, Howard Frank, Ralph Foster and Joe Curtis.
  Flower ladies were Mrs. Virgie Jonas, Mrs. Anna Mae Richardson, Mrs. Mary Best, Mrs. Virginia Kauzlarich and Mrs. Edith Fry.

  We wish to thank our many relatives, neighbors and friends for the food that was brought in, for the beautiful flowers, for the sympathy cards that we received and all of the other help that we received at the time of our loss of our loved one.  A special thanks to Dr. Brummitt, sisters, nurses and nurses aides and the staff of St. Joseph’s hospital at Centerville and to Elvin Liggett our funeral director.

Alice E. Fox Moore, 1900-1964

  Alice E. Moore, daughter of Charles W. Fox and Mary Kelly, was born in Jerome, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1900, and passed away at the Wayne county hospital in Corydon, Iowa, Sept. 3, 1964, at the age of 63 years, nine months and 22 days.
  She was united in marriage to Douglas Ervin Moore Aug. 2, 1918.  To this union were born six children, Ervin Wendell, who preceded her in death, William Kenneth of East Moline, Ill., Wayne Robert and Williard LaVerne of Seymour, Mrs. Larry (Helen Rae) Jones at Corydon, and Mrs. Bill (Marianna) Dodson Jr of Montrose, Colo.
  Five sisters also survive, Mrs. Jessie Warren of Garden Grove, Calif., Mrs. Stella Kirchner of Menomonee Falls, Wisc., Mrs. Margurite Formaro and Mrs. Goldie McKinley of Des Moines and Mrs. Evelyn Sebben of Seymour.  There are three brothers, Charles E. Fox of Centerville, James Fox and Abraham Lincoln Fox of Bettendorf.
  She also leaves eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law and a host of other relatives.
  She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Ervin, one son in infancy, two sisters, one granddaughter, Terry Lee Moore, and one grandson, Bobby Lee Moore.
  Her entire life was spent in Appanoose and Wayne counties.  For the past several years she was a resident of Seymour.  She was a kind and loving mother, wife and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all.

  The funeral was Sunday, Sept. 6, at 2:30 at the Liggett Funeral Home in Seymour with Oscar Sharp of Corydon officiating.  Vernon Gold Jr. sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Goodnight Here, Good Morning Up There.”  He was accompanied by Mrs. John Wickam.
  Burial was at Jerome.
  Pallbears were Jesse Wayne Roberts, Hiatt Butler, Farris Wade, Byran VanDorn, Junior Harbert and Dolpha Bone.
  Flower ladies were Mrs. Virgie Jonas, Mrs. Geneva Huston, Mrs. Roger Rietal and Mrs. Robert Schubert.

George Henry Moore, 1888-1965

  George Henry Moore, longtime resident of Mystic, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 1, 1965, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 77 years, eight months and 18 days.
  Born in Rooks County, Kansas, January 13, 1888, he was the son of Albert and Millie Hibbs Moore.  He is a retired farmer, Veteran of World War I, member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and World War I Veterans.
  He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Blair of Cincinnati, Ia., Mrs. Elsie Wakefield of Mystic, Chas. Moore of Harrisburg, Penn., Frank Moore of Carlisle, Ia.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
  Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. October 3, 1965 from the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. George A. Sheils officiating and burial in the Jerome cemetery.

Jennie May Christy Minard Sacco, 1918-2007

  Jennie Sacco, age 88, died Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Golden Age Care Center, Centerville.
  Jennie was born Sept. 17, 1918, the daughter of Everett and Susan (Fisher) Christy in Jerome.
  She married Wilbur LeRoy Minard. He preceded her in death. She later married Vince Sacco in Centerville.  He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1982.
  Jennie and Vince owned and operated Sacco Cab Service in Centerville for many years.  Jennie loved nature, especially bird watching.  She enjoyed crocheting, latch hooking, cross word puzzles, going on trips with the 18-80 Club and spending time with her family.  Jennie was a member of the Methodist Church in Plano.
  Jennie is survived by three daughters, Emma Lee Leopard of Plano, Donna Jean Brandon of Centerville, and Sandi (Junior) Robbins of Cincinnati; two sons, Walter LeRoy (Rita) Minard of Nampa, Idaho, and James Richard (Bee) Minard of Suffolk, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Minard; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two children, Virginia May Minard and Wilbur Minard, Jr.; two grandsons, Eddie Dean Brandon and Tim Leslie Leopard.
  A visitation will be held Friday, May 4, at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with the family present   from 5 to 7 p.m.  Friends may call at the funeral home all day on Friday.  A private burial will take place at a later date.
  A memorial has been established to the Golden Age Care Center Aviary Fund and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.

Wilbur Leroy Minard, 1913-1957

  Wilbur Minard, former resident of this county, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the hospital in Mt. Pleasant, at the age of 44 years, 5 months, and 3 days.
  He was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, May 12, 1913, the son of William and Ada Sprigg Minard.  He was married to Jennie Christy in 1933.
  Surviving are his widow, six children, Mrs. Emma Lee Leopard of Plano, Mrs. Donna Gene Noah, Hammond, Ind.; Walter, Richard, Sandra, and J.R. at home; his parents, two sisters and three brothers.  He was preceded in death by one child.
  The body will be at the Johnson Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be held at the Jerome cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Marcella Monette McKern Inskeep, 1918-1992

  Marcella Monette Inskeep was born September 1, 1918 in Jerome, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Coza (Dooley) McKern.  She passed away Friday, April 3, 1992, at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital, Centerville, Iowa at the age of 73 years, seven months and two days.
  She was united in marriage to Wesley T. Inskeep in Unionville, Missouri, October 18, 1938 and to this union four children were born.
  Marcella was a cook for the Seymour School District for ten years and a member of the Seymour Legion Auxiliary.
  She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene; a daughter, Sharon; a brother, Bruce McKern and a granddaughter, Megan Inskeep.
  Survivors include her husband, Wesley of Seymour, two daughters, Vicki Twerten of Boston, Massachusetts, and Jeanie Bigcanoe of Rockford, Illinois; one son, Steven and wife, Kim Inskeep of Knoxville, Iowa; seven grandchildren; her mother, Coza McKern of Centerville; one brother, Carl (Pat) McKern of Davenport, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
  Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 7, 1992 at 11 a.m. from the Randolph Funeral Home, Seymour, Iowa with Pastor Paul Smith officiating.  The hymns “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord’s Prayer” were sung by Milton Albertson, accompanied by Bernace  Kerwin, pianist.
  Paulbearers were Pat Stiel, Max Rash, David Snider, Harold Swank, Curt Schavaneback and Ray Tresemer.  Interment was in the Jerome cemetery.

Succumbs to Long Time Illness

  Mrs. Anna Bollman, well known and widely loved resident of Jerome, and wife of C. C. Bollman, died at her home there yesterday afternoon at 2:15 o’clock, from complications following many years of ill health. Her death brings sorrow to a host of relatives ande friends as Mrs. Bullman (sic) had been a life long resident of Appanoose county and had lived in Jerome for a long period of time.
  Mrs. Bollman was 59 years, 11 moths (sic) and 26 days old, and had been in semi-invalidism, since a nervous breakdown 21 years ago, when her only child, a 19 year old daughter, Edna died.  During recent years her frail health had been complicated and led to her death yesterday.
Moved to Jerome
  She was born near Griffinsville and lived with her parents there until eight years of age, when she moved to Jerome, where she spent practically the entire remainder of her life. Two years following her marriage some 43 years ago she and her husband lived for a time at Concord, the Concord church being on their farm. They then returned to Jerome, buying a farm, which is located at the edge of town and have lived there since.
  In death she is preceded by her daughter, and father and mother.  One sister, Mrs. Vera Owen, of Jerome survives, in addition to five brothers as follows: R. F. Sedgwick of Centerville, T. R. of St. Louis, W’m of Des Moines, Owen of Jerome and Theodore of Jerome.
  She was a member of the Believer’s church and a woman of splendid character.  She will be remembered as having written some poetry and other writings for the Iowegian, which were widely read.  Funeral services will be held from the Gospel Hall in Jerome at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with David Lawrence officiating.  Burial will be at Jerome.

  Mrs. Anna Bollman, wife of Clarence Bollman, departed this life to be with Crist, on Monday, Sept. 14.  For more than three and a half years she has suffered greatly from arthritis, palay and weakness, but her last illness was of only three days duration and the end came peacefully in their home at Jerome
  She has rested in Christ as her Savior for many years. The day before her death, in conversation she said: “What comforts me is “He died for me’.”
  She was the daughter of Benjaman (sic) and Katherine Sedgwick and was born Sept. 19, 1876. She would have been sixty years of age in a few days.
  She was united in marriage with Clarence Bollman, May 27, 1893.  One child, Edna, was born, who fell asleep in Jesus 21 years ago, at the age of 19 years.
  Her husband, five brothers, Tom, Owen, Will, Ben and Theodore, one sister, Vera, and many nieces and nephews are left who feel their loss deeply.

  CENTERVILLE – Leslie (Scotty) Cathcart, 69, resident of 629 Park Avenue, Centerville, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital Thursday, April 16, 1970 at 8:45 p.m.  He had been in ill health since September and a hospital patient for one day.
  Born April 28, 1900 near Jerome, he was the son of Leslie Fleming and Jean Ross Cathcart.  On May 5, 1929, he united in marriage with Janet Gillespie in Lancaster, Mo., and she survives his passing.
  He was a member of the Gospel Chapel and had lived in Centerville for the past 28 years.  He was a retired miner and road construction employee.
  Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, David Cathcart, and a sister, Mary Cathcart.
  Survivors, beside his widow, include three brothers, James of Centerville, John of Jerome, and William of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Neal) Bear of Centerville and Mrs. J. F. (Emma) Feaster of Des Moines.
  Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home.  John Lewis will officiate assisted by Ferne Van Antwerp.  Burial will be in Jerome Cemetery. A memorial payable to the Children’s Christian Home in Colorado Springs has been established.  Memorials may be given at the funeral home or at Norris Motors on North Main Street.
  The family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m.

  Leslie Cathcart, better known as Scotty, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday April 16, 1970.  He had been in failing health since September but a hospital patient for only one day.  He was born April 28, 1900 near Jerome, Iowa, the son of L. F. and Jean Ross Cathcart.
  He united in marriage with Janet S. Gillespie May 5, 1929 in Lancaster, Mo.  After leaving his parents’ farm he was employed by the coal mines, by the Centerville Ice Co. and in road construction work until his retirement in 1966.
  Leslie accepted Christ as his personal Savior April 26, 1964 and was in happy fellowship with the Christians who meet at the Gospel Chapel in Centerville.
  His parents, a brother, David, and a sister Mary Ellen Cathcart preceded his in death.
  Besides his widow he leave two sisters, Mrs. Frank Neal Bear, and Mrs. J. F. (Emma) Feaster, three brothers, James and John of Centerville and William of Cheyenne, Wyoming, many other relatives and a host of friends.
  Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 19, 1970, from the Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home with John Lewis and Ferne Van Antwerp officiating.  James McKendrick sang two numbers “Till He Come” and “Midst of Darkness.”
  Pall bearers were two nephews, James Feaster and Willlliam Medland and four great nephews, James Richard, Jack and Paul Oden.
  Internment was in the Jerome Cemetery.

  Eugene Dewey McKern, 73, a native of Jerome, died suddenly at his home Thursday, Sept. 23, 1971, at 5:30 p.m.  His death was attributed to a heart attack.  Born June 28, 1898, in Jerome, he was the son of Lewis Henry and Ella May Ewers McKern.  On Feb. 6, 1918, he was united in marriage to Coza M. Dooley in Centerville and she survives his passing.
  He attended the Methodist church.
  McKern was an employee of the Pure Ice Co. in Centerville for a period of 25 years and served as a coal mine engineer and farmer.
  He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Bruce McKern, a casualty during World War II; two granddaughters and two sisters, Lela McKern and Dorothy Burns.
  Survivors, in addition to his widow, are one daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Marcella) Inskeep of Seymour; a son, Carl McKern of Davenport; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Ella Hunter of Centerville; a brother, William McKern of Kansas City, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. James Cathcart of Centerville.
  Funeral was Sunday, Sept. 26, at 2:30 p.m. from the Miller-Wehrle Funeral home.  Rev. Glen Lochhead officiated, assisted by Rev. Dale Wilfong. Burial was in the Jerome cemetery.
  A memorial has been established for the heart fund in Mr. McKern’s memory.

Mark Alan Foster, 1962-1990

  Mark Alan Foster, 27, of 1403 Hillside Drive of Bettendorf, Iowa was DOA (dead on arrival) at the St. Lukes Hospital in Davenport on Monday, June 25, 1990.
  He was born in Centerville on October 27, 1962, the son of Larry Dean and Leona Clayworth Foster.  He was employed at the Duck Creek Plaza in Bettendorf with the General Growth Management Corp.  He was united in marriage on July 26, 1986 at Allendale, S.C. to Penny Clifton, who survives.
  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Glen Foster, Carl and Nora Fenton and Lola Morrison.
  Survivors include his wife Penny of Bettendorf; three daughters all at home – Stormi, Erica and Kayla; his mother Leona Fullmer of LeClaire; his father Larry Foster of Milan, Ill.; two sisters Cindy McKenrick of Eldridge and Vickie Bates of LeClaire; and grandmother Cora Foster of Centerville.
  Funeral services will be Friday, June 29, 1990 at 10:30 a.m. at the Duley Funeral Home in Centerville with the Rev. Roger Goodson officiating.  Burial will be in the Jerome Cemetery in Jerome.  Friends may call beginning Thursday morning at 9 a.m. Visitations will be Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial has been established to the family.
